I have a small hairline crack in my transmission housing that is leaking oil....I know that TIG welding is the best solution, but I know the transmission has to be removed, cleaned, and then welding. All this labor costs a lot, so is there any OTHER way to possibly fill in the hairline crack, at least temporarily to stop the leak?

JB Weld or Majic Steel (or whatever its called - stick of putty; you knead the two colors together to make one uniform cover and stick it on there. Easier to work with than JB. We fixed a 2"x2" hole in an oil pan with this once - when we fially replaced it, I drilled and tapped a hole in it just to see if the marketing crap on the package was true. It was.)

I would also drain the oil before you do it, it doesn't lead into the bell housing does it? if it does, you have no choice.

Awesome, I'll give it a try. If not, I noticed that I am not too far from Zionsville, Indiana....maybe this is a good time for a 6-speed swap!

Well, upon inspection myself, it looks like I might have overtightened the bolt when I last drained it and caused the housing to crack. I got the JB Weld puddy and put it on there. At least I slowed the leak down. Then I just said screw it and placed the putty over the entire bolt. I guess I'm going to have to pump it out next time I drain it. Maybe in another 90k though I will just replace the tranny! Now, I have to buy 1 bottle of royal purple and fill it back up to where it flows out of the fill hole. Hopefully this will last.
