Dealer just quoted me that much for replacement pads, discs, install at all 4 corners. Is that high compared to other places where you are?

yes. You can get all new blank brembo rotors and pads for around $300 shipped to your door. Installation is easy, very easy DIY. If you can't DIY then a regular shop should probably charge about $200-250 if you have all your parts.

I was quoted about $900 for pads and rotors installed awhile ago.
I would do it myself if it ever decides to stop raining here in Seattle.
I'm putting it off until spring though cause they're still good for now.

anything over 500 dollars for a shop to change pads/rotors front/rear is ridiculous.
its easy to do yourself

Yes, wow...my rear brake job was like 230 bucks when I did it myself. So, id say you're looking at 380ish for 4 rotors, then however much you want to spend on pads (depends greatly on the pads you get. i spent 120 bucks on my fronts, and 60 on my rears, but you could spend a whole lot less).
So, assuming you buy just a decent pad, add that all together, it comes to around 450 for all your own parts. If you do it yourself, you just saved 1,000 dollars. Its a pretty easy install, but I would suggest having someone there that has done it before to help you. After all, you dont want to mess up the thing that stops your car.
Or, you could buy all your own parts, and a decent shop shouldnt charge you that much for labor (however, a lot of shops are bullshit and say they wont install parts because they cant warranty them etc etc, which basically means they want you to buy parts through them at their insanely high markup).

its easy to do yourselfIf you are talking about $500 in labor, maybe. If you are talking parts too, no way.
If the shop is using oem parts, the front rotors list at $168 each, $135 each for the rears, about $150 for pads, and $30 for the sensors. Add in some more for fluid and the brake pad goop. Shops make money by buying wholesale and selling at retail, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Even buying discounted oem parts cost me about $450, so $500 for the complete job is totally unrealistic. The very best deal I've ever seen on M3 brake parts is $265 for rotors, pads and sensors,
http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=267179
but you still need fluid ($15) and brake pad goop ($5), and some other stuff, so it's going to be $300 in parts MINIMUM, and that's ONLY if the shop charges zero markup on these non-oem parts.
I'd say $750-$800 is a more realistic estimate for a shop to supply the parts and do the work, which is going to take even an experienced guy several hours to do all four wheels and bleed everything. It's a business, they do it to make money. Nothing wrong with that. Although $1550 is probably a dealer price using oem parts, it's pretty much a ripoff, unless the guy is going to rebuild or replace the calipers. Find an independent guy who will use the non-oem blank rotors like brembo, zimmerman, balo, etc., Axxis ultimate pads, and ATE Super blue fluid, and it should be a lot more reasonable.
Can you do it yourself and save huge money? Sure. But that's not what the original poster asked.

$900 is laughable.
How much were they charging for blinker fluid change?

They probably threw that in for free. The allowance for Astroglide was what drove up the price. :D

Nah, they were made out of silver and installed by local hand and foot models.

My friend was quoted $1050 to do the pads & rotors @ South Bay BMW on her 03' Mini.
Insane I say considering I would've threw on some Mintex pads for her for <$70. She told me too late though :eyecrazy .

installation is another $100that's unreal cheap for 4 rotors and pads, especially if it includes a complete fluid flush/bleed (which every full brake job should). If they do good work, you got a helluva deal.

FWIW - buy the parts online then have a Midas or Meike brake shop do the install if you want to save money on parts but don't want to get your hands dirty.

i just did the brakes on all four corners. new mintex pads ($75 for both), new zimmerman blanks (about $50 each), and new sensors ($30 for both) came to about $300 total. installation is stupid easy, just make sure you have a c-clamp to push the caliper piston back in.
