Want to black my motorsports out, any ideas on where I would get them powder coated? Is this the best way to go? No opinions on the trendiness or looks blacked out rims please.
Also, who could polish the lip?
Thanks,
John

I'm having mine powdercoated here in Cincinnati. I'm very good friends with a powdercoating guy. If you're interested, I could send you his email address and you can get in touch with him. It would be a good deal, as long as it didn't cost you a lot to ship them to and from Cincinnati...

I'm sure there are quite a few powdercoaters in your area. Just look in the Yellow Pages. One thing that I've always told powdercoaters is to cure the wheels at a lower temperature, as structural integrity is top priority when powdercoating a wheel. The temperature that's used when coating standard items is too hot for wheels, possibly leading to cracks under heavy cornering, especially on race tires. Seen it many times!
BTW, I have black powdercoated wheels on my M as well!

I would get them powdercoated locally. I got 4 Kinesis Supercups powdercoated along with centercaps for $280.

Guys, my friend can do a full set of 17's for around $200, which includes media blasting and powdercoating in just about any color you want. You guys would have to pay for shipping though. If anyone's interested, shoot me a PM...

Thanks alot everyone,
any idea about how to get the lip polished?
Or maybe i could get the lip powdercoated hypersilve or gunmetal.
How about the durability of powdercoating? Pretty good? Is it a good idea to put a clearcoat on top?
Thanks again

The durability is amazing - brake dust doesnt stand a chance, everything just wipes away. I believe they have a clear built in when the bake it no? The finish is worth the price IMHO

Yes, powdercoat does typically have a varied amount of clear in the mix. It ranges from as little as 9% (near matte finish) to over 90% (anodized finishes)...

any polisher in your area can polish the lip and the Pcoater will mask it before he applies the color powder...then unmask it when he applies the clear top coat. 2 stage powder is the only way to go here.

a 2 stage powder (color and clear) is gonna run you 80-125$ per wheel. don't go with a single stage...they don't have the depth of a 2 stage.
