This is my first post...My dad has a Merc. E320 4matic right now, and is looking for a new car...I've been pushing him on a 6 series rather than an E500 4matic, however, my dad says that he needs a car that will hold its own in the snow...any info on the drivability in the snow, or should I just tell him to get a 530xi with AWD? Also, any other major points of the 6 series he should consider? i.e. what are your favorite parts of the car?

My thoughts exactly. If you are after a snow car, get an awd or 4x4 of some kind. Don't look at a 6er for a winter driver.

Older model BMW rear wheel drives are worst in the snow:0

Whether it was my 528e, 635CSI, OR E30m3- SAME RESULT:)

Hello,

You will not get any good feedback from this forum on the new 6er; not because they do not share (Perhaps) but more so because there are not many New 6er Owners on this forum (At least they haven't shown their 6er faces/presence). You would do better to go to bimmerfest.com There is a community flurishing with the answers you seek.

I would advise you to search the threads before posting such questions as these topics/concerns have already been discussed.

So you know, I frequent this forum because I have a bunch of friends who backroad drive or meet occasionally, which the other forum (Bimmerfest.com) does not do; different strokes for different folks.

Eitherway to answer your questions directly, The 6er without the sport package does well in the snow (18" wheel-all seasons tyres) vs. the Sport Package (19" wheel summer performance tyres only) I think you will understand why. If not, let me know or maybe someone else wants to chime in with a more informative response.

But those who really are BMW performance addicts go for a second set of tyres for the winter whilst keeping the natural sport performance for the summer.

I hope this helps. You can always chime me back or come to the bimmerfest.com and you will get tons more New 6er information there.

Cheers!
