View Full Version : Wrecked my M3, any idea on how much it will cost?

I was being stupid, and got out of control, jumping up a curb and slammed into a fence. I didn't hit it going too fast. The drivers side front panel, hood, bumper, and the painted piece between the hood and bumper (it holds the grill in). Any idea how much it will cost to replace all that and paint it at a good body shop? Also, should I be worried about the suspension when I went up the curb? I drove the car on the interstate today, and it still tracks straight, doesn't feel weird, and there are no vibrations. Thanks for your help.

bring it to a body shop, they will give you an estimate on how much it would cost. It would be way mroe accurate than anyone on here would tell you. You dont know what kind of damages might the there other than the body panels.

Your alignment is most definitely off... possibility of bent control arms/tie rods, etc.

I am going to a body shop first thing on Monday, It is just making me sick to my stomach thinking about it, and I just wanted to know about what to expect. Thanks

It's impossible to tell without very detailed pics and even then, it would really be guess work and speculation...quality bodywork is very very pricey although there are a few benifits to owning m3's and the whole e36 line because used parts are plentiful and typically not overwhelmingly expensive...however...there may be some damage underneath what you can see...frame repair may be needed...radiator support may need to be replaced...blah blah blah...in any case...hope for the best...may not be all that bad either, but there just isnt any way of telling you like this...shop rates also vary widely from shop to shop for labor but cheaper is definately NOT necessarily smarter when it comes to bodywork.

Also to help cut cost shop here in the “for sale section” and at local salvage yards for OE used parts. You might even find a part you need off of a car the is the same color as yours and you wont need to paint it witch would be a huge savings for you. Defiantly go to many shops and get estimates.
Good luck

Everything said above is correct, but you can get an idea. If is mostly cosmetic, all prices new, before discount.

Nose panel $122
Fender $300
Hood $434
bumper cover $434

parts $1290

Those are the major parts, expect about 15 hrs of labor to install and paint at say $85 per hour...Plus all the other little bits. $1275

total $2565 Call it $3000 rough guess, let me know how close I was.

That's pretty good.. but he most likely has suspension issues so:

Control Arms: $250 ea.
TieRods: $125 ea.

Parts: $750

Id expect maybe 5 hours of labor to do all that? PLus $100 for alignment? roughly $525

add on about $1275. Assuming you did do some suspension damage. Hopefully it's just the tierods.

Post up some pics for a more accurate estimate.

Got a couple of estimates yesterday. Turns out the damage was less severe than I thought. They don't have to replace any panels except for the bumper. I told them I wanted it to look brand new, and they assured me it would. I am new to the area, and asked around a little bit. I stopped by a german autowerks shop and he told me about an older guy that loves doing this, is pretty cheap, and does an outstanding job. He had a pretty good size shop. The total was $1500. Much better than I was expecting. Thanks

I think control arms are more like $180 each

control arms are 150$ each at pelicanparts, tie rod ends are 50$ I believe...
Next time you want to full around, go find a nice big parking lot....perhaps at an autocross?

For the 3k$ you are spending on this BS, you could have went to 6 or 7 driving schools. You just sacrificed about 35 hours or so of track time. live and learn

DId the same thing, except into the back of an Altima. If its only body panels, then yeah about $3000. But, if your cooling system was in anyway damaged, $4700-5200.
