View Full Version : New Exhaust/High Miles?

I've got a '96 M3 that I'm leaning towards keeping. It's got 115,000 miles on it and has been maintained brilliantly and driven conservatively throughout its life. I'm probably going to replace the O2 sensors just because and maybe replace the exhaust with a Stromung, RSC36 or Eisenmann. Generally, do original exhausts on cars with high mileage get clogged or worn out over time? And, if so, would a new aftermarket exhaust produce a noticable improvement in performance as a result? Thanks.

The stock exhaust is only going to wear in it's noise dampening capabilities, not in performance really. An aftermarket one will produce gains, but not really noticeable, IMO most people do the upgrade for the sound.

As above, it's mostly for asthetics, sound, and weight.

Btw, you call 115k high? :confused It's a bimmer bro, that's nothin!

if you want gains get the track pipe! I got one custom made from collector pipe to exhaust tips and man!!!! What a difference in the but dyno and sound quality. only paid 445 for it! :)

I would check your gas mileage before replacing the o2 sensors. If it's good, there is no need to replace; it's expensive if you plan to do all [count em'] 4 for an OBDII car like yours.

With real easy driving/mostly highway I'm getting around 26mpg.

I got 29 mpg driving from Jacksonville, FL to Atlanta (Alpharetta specifically)last week. I went about 75mph most of the way except when I got into ATL, where I had to keep it at 85mph to keep from getting rear ended by all the other traffic.

Dinan mods: CAI, AFM, TB, Stage 4 software and exhaust.
