How To - Replace Trans Mounts?

My trans mounts are shot on my 89 635. How difficult a job is it to replace them?

Does the exhaust have to come off?

The exhaust coming off makes things much easier, that is for sure. However, as to weather it is crucial, that is up to you. I do not think it is, as all you have to do is push up on the transmission, slide the mounts out, put the new ones in, and let the transmission fall back onto the new mounts. Then tighten everything up. This is a tad easier said than done, as the transmission is quite heavy.

Thanks for the reply. I have been told the exhaust HAD to come off. Nice to know it doesn't. I have a rack to put the car on and a transmission lifter so lifting the trans won't be a problem.

Surely its not as tough as the motor mounts were to install?

It just makes things much easier. Like with an engine removal, you don't have to take out the radiator, but it is a good idea.

You might only lower the exhaust no need to take it apart
