Ok, it's a fair weather garage queen and doesn't see winter very often. I drove it the other day on a road trip and the heat kept going cold. Temp guges stayed normal. Is the temp controlled by thermostat or by the knob?

The temperature is controlled by the climate knobs, although not the exact way it gets to that temperature. By that, I mean the car tries to make the interior that temperature, so if it gets hot, it cools. On the das center, the 2 main vents above the radio, there is a dial inbetween them with a red spot on top and a blue one on botom. Red means it will put out only hot air. Blue means it will only put out cold air. Leaving it in the middle means you get a mix; hot at your feet, colder at your hands so as to not make you too hot while maintaining the temperature specified by the climate control knobs.

Turn that dial to red, and see how it works.
