Hi guys,

If anyone has the time to answer these quick questions for me, I would be much obliged. I have a friend who has asked me, "the BMW guy," some questions on a 99 740i Sport and I knew just where to take them.

1. My buddy has a 740i and wants to know if his windows and sunroof can be programmed to the remote by a tool of some sort, perhaps the MODIC at the dealer?

2. What manufacturer makes a good chip for it and where can he get one for it.....(Dinan? AA? Conforti?) Do you either buy a chip or recalibrate the cars computer.....and in your opinions are they worth it? Or is it as debated as OBDII SW for the M3s?

Again, I thank you all in advance for your time.

The only option available on the remote key for windows/sunroof is that if you hold down the door open button, you can open the windows and sunroof. However, because of safety reasons, BMWNA has permanently disabled the windows and sunroof close feature on the remote key for N.A. cars. You can also open and close windows and sunroof by manually holding the key in the open or close position physically in the door lock.

There are no "chips" available for OBDII but Dinan and RD make engine software downloads. Basically Dinan is pretty much the only game in town for the E38 and one that I would recommend, except not sure if it is worth it for the 7'er "Sport" model, since it is already tuned pretty nicely from the factory. But you can check out Dinan 7-Series (http://www.dinanbmw.com/html/740-1996/740_1996_perf.htm) here if you want.

Good luck to your friend.

Chris,
Jim Conforti recently announced he had solved the OBDll codes for the 6 cylinder BMW motors.
I'd check to see if he has a product for the M62 V8 motor.

Cheers

Sim,

Last month when I checked with Jim on the M62, he still had no firm date on a possible V8 product.
