Has Anyone dropped their e39 on stock shocks. And if so did you need camber adjustment kits ? So will i be ok on stock shocks and who has done it what is your experience ? http://img279.imageshack.us/img279/5402/bmwrearshot9mp.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

If you lower the car with sport springs you will need sport shocks. The higher spring rates and consequently shorter, faster, travel of the suspension will destroy OE shocks pretty quickly. The labor the change springs is more than the cost of a set of sport shocks, so you might as well do the job once.
And if the OE shocks have more than 60-70k on them they are probably due for replacement anyhow.

You should do it, tell us how it works.

Yeah, OEM shocks will not last long. This is due to the fact that with shorter springs, they will never fully extend. Sport shocks have a shorter travel

It doesn't matter that they will never fully extend, it's the vicious rebound of the stiffer springs that kills the shocks super fast.
Don't lower it on stock shocks, it will be bouncy because they can't control the spring's movement - and when the shocks are totally blown, the ride CAN be just downright uncomfortable.
Bilstein if you like a real stiff ride
Koni for the adjustability / probable best performance.

i have the factory sport suspension on my 97, I love it except that the front rides a little high. Would my ride quality go down the drain if I put on a set of H&R springs?

That depends on what shocks you use. My experience with the I-6 E39's is that H&R's and Koni sports (set at most one turn from full soft) is that the ride is better than an OE sport suspension and handling is improved because understeer is reduced.

I was planning on leaving the stock sport shocks in place. and it would be in a 540.

How many miles on those sport shocks? If over about 60-70k they are probably due for replacement or will almost certainly need to be replaced by 80-90k.

theres 98k on them, but the car still rides good, I'm sure I'd deffinatly notice the difference once I replaced them though. I like the way my car currently rides, I just wish it were a little bit lower. would you still suggest koni's? or go back with the factory sport shocks?
