Thx all you guys that answerd all my questions. I had 318is (1991) checked out and the mechanic said all good. I need a profile gasket, and installed he'll do it for 450CDN or 300US. I drove last night and its fun!! Not to fast, but quick and easy to toss around!! Thx alot guys!

1991 318iS, 225/50/16, all else stock for now

Ack!! Those tires are an inch too tall for an E30 and are hurting your acceleration big time. The stock tire is 23.9" in diameter but your 225/50-16's are 24.9". Couple that with the fact that 16" tires are heavier than 15" or 14" tires and there are two reasons right there why your car is slower than it should be. If you were to mount a set of stock wheels and tires you'd be shocked at how much faster it accelerates :-)

16" tires are heavier than 15" or 14" tires of the same diameter and that extra weight does additional damage cause it's further from the center of the wheel. I think the best performance tire size for the 318is would be either a 205/55-15 or maybe a 225/50-15 if you want a wider footprint for cornering at the expense of a little acceleration (the 225 is heavier than the 205). Both of these sizes are the correct diameter for the car. A lighter tire and wheel setup makes a big difference on a lower-powered car like the 318is.

These are some of the reasons i run a 225/50-15 on a 15x7.5" wheel and tire setup on my E30.

Oh shit, I'll look into some 205's. Thx alot.

Yeah a 205/55-15 would be best, but if you want to keep your 16" wheels then the here are the two best choices
if the wheels' width and offset are within the correct range for the E30....

215/45-16 (23.6" diameter, slightly shorter than stock)

225/45-16 (23.9" diameter, virtually the same as stock)

How wide are your 16" rims anyway? And do you know their offset? What brand?

Randy, 70lbs would be for all 4 of them?

I'm almost lost.

They are BS rims from God knows where. I am gonna pick up some new Chromed out mags as soon as I find some nice ones. I was thinking of these http://www.tirerack.com/upgrade_garage/WheelSearch.jsp?filterSize=&filterFinish=Chrome&changeColor=Red&filterSpecial=null&autoMake=BMW&autoModel=318is&autoYear=1991

Heh heh, i was wondering if you'd get it. Each one weighs 17.5 lbs, which isn't bad for a strong solid wheel like this one is.

Ahh, ok, cool! :D...I was thinking...70lbs apiece? I'm glad I haven't put my deposit down yet...

Any idea what the wait will be at this point? Say I put my deposit down in the next two weeks...general guesstimate? When are you supposed to have yours, and how long ago did you make the deposit?

Thanks!

This production run was originally scheduled for May or June, but the factory in Germany is still tied up making OEM wheels for a major European carmaker so our little production run of 200 sets had to be pushed back. It's beyond the control of their US headquarters. Per my conversation with Gary a few days ago the wheels are tentatively scheduled to arrive late September or early October barring any more production changes :-)

I reserved a set back in April, and just the other day i reserved a 3rd set to stash away for the future since this will be the very last run of these wheels. There will be no more made after this run :-(

Pity. The ACT-LS was my favorite wheel way back in the mid 80's when i was full-on into Volkswagens, and it's still my favorite wheel of all time.

Randy, sweet pic of your car. But I have to ask, how come the tread is worn so much on the outside of the tires? Was that from negative camber and you had just adjusted the tires?
