So i had a dead battery and left the keys in as i was hooking up the jumper cables. When i hooked up the final chord the power turned on in my car. When this happened, the doors locked.
Is there a way for me to unlock the doors by jumping some relays or fuses? the hood is popped.
thanks, David

no, try unplugging and replugging the battery.
If not then get a coat hanger. and wire the rear door on the passenger side.
All the other doors will not wire open with a coat hanger. Only that door will accept the coat hanger key.
stick it down inside the glass but at the middle of the door...feel around for a horizontal wire that connects the inside handle and pull up on it.
it happened to me and a expert car thief (well the guy is now the janitor at my job) help me open my door this way.

Well if you were in the trunk, id say just go through the rear seats and unlock that way. Or open up where the key goes into the turnk and just short the unlock wires and it will tell the central locking system to unlock.

Better hurry up before your family starves in your car.
Sorry for the bad joke, but I could not resist...
So a couple of years ago I was at a dealer and went to test drive a used car. We started it up, popped the hood to check the engine, then closed the doors. Click...all the doors locked with the engine running.
Did they have another key and remote? Not to my knowledge as it was still running with the doors locked when we left.

Yup sure is, if you cant get in through the seats take apart the lock on the trunk from the inside and short the unlock wires together to unlock the whole car. Thtas the best way to do it.

Always... ALWAYS... when you're working in the car, leave one door open or roll down one window, at least... ALWAYS.

I have nothing useful to contribute to this thread other than that I now keep a spare key on my necklace. :)

Mine does that bullshit sometimes, caught me once with the car running. I was walking to my car, and decided to grab the newspaper. Unlock the car, and open the passenger door. Lean in and start the car, close the passenger door. As I'm walking away to get the newspaper, I head *clunk* and it locks the doors. :mad
Had to call AAA, they came in like 15 minutes tho. Good thing I filled up the day before!

E36s came from the factory with 4 keys. 3 of which are master keys. You guys only got one key when you bought your car? I have the spare master key, and the wallet master key, which I keep in my wallet for just this reason.
Sorry, just my $.02 :)

I don't have the wallet one, hence the necklace thing. I'm paranoid now.

They airbagged the window... lifted it out by inflating an airbag, then going in and pulling the handle from the inside. The alarm doesn't double-lock, thank god...
