I have H&R Sport springs, koni adjustables and 245/40/17 in the rear. When I had 2 guys sitting in the back seat tonight I had rubbing. What can help remedy this? Stiffin up the shocks? Or what? I would like to keep from having to roll my fenders if I can help it. Any ideas?

how much rear camber? Put some thicker spring pads in the rear.

Rolling your fender would be the best option. Unless you want to change your suspension, which I dont think you should.

ummm if you want i would just go to a thinner tire go from a 40 series tire if you can to a 35 if you can spare the money... that way you dont have to mess with your suspension set up if you like it the way it is...

Is it rubbing on the inside of the fender lip or on the inside of the fender well?

I had rubbing on my pro-kit and stock wheels. My buddy with H&R sport and stock wheels rubbed too.

I don't know what it was for him, but for me it was really minor....like a small portion of the bumper. Take your wheel off and you will see. Then just sand that portion down.

find where it is rubbing first. if it is the inner fender lip then get them rolled. if it is the fender itself up higher then the lip, get a 10 mm spring pad and stiffen the rear shocks a bit. this isn't an agressive application. also when was the last time you got an allignment. if you didn't do an allignment after the install it may just be out of wack.

Get your fenders rolled. It's the easiest option.

Put a rollbar in the back and you wouldn't need to worry about back seat riders.

How many ppl in the back? I get it if I have three and hit a larger bump on the freeway but its pretty minimal. I added some spring pads and that solved my problem and I dident have to roll my fenders you might want to look into that.

This may or may not help because I changed several items at the same time. I don't know exactly what fixed the problem.

I had the rubbing problem with stock wheels/springs/shocks, but I also had 255/40/17s. The rubbing was just on the passenger side when people were in the backseat. I thought it was the 255s, but the problem didn't go away when I put on 245/40/17s and H&R Sports with Bilstein Sports and an extra 5mm spring pad (10mm total).

I replaced the RTABs and the shock tower mounts at the same time, then got the whole thing aligned. I haven't heard any rubbing since.

I did NOT roll my fenders, that just seemed like sacrilege and wouldn't have helped anyway since the rubbing was on the inside of the fender.

A friend of mine that runs a tire and suspension shop thought it might have been the Kumho knockoffs (same rubber and factory, different name) I was running at the time. They had a very square shoulder compared to the stock Michelins.

Hope this helps in some way, if not at least you know someone else has shared the embarassment of a rubbing tire. The worst was when my sister-in-law (tall, but definitely not big), was sitting in the back. It took forever to convince her it was a problem with my car rather than her having a big butt.

Good Luck!

RTAB's also took away all my problems. Worth a look into. So hes not blowing smoke up your ass :D

Well, seems no one in my town or the next town away does fender rolling. I suppose I will try replacing my rtabs.

Anyone know where a good tutorial for replacing the rtabs would be? Part # for the bushings?

Yeah I wrote one in the E36 board, do a search for RTAB withough special tools :D Let me know how it treats you.

Take your wheel off to see first.

JC-

one way to tell if rtabs are bad...when you hit the throttle hard, the car will pull strongly to the side (right side for me). and when you let of the throttle abruptly, it will jerk back to the other side. i didn't notice this phenomenon till i put on some r-comps, then it became obvious.

i'll be replacing mine in a week or two. that write up is a very good one, its very comprehensive. you will have two options for replacing them. the first is to get stock replacement rtabs and get the gc limiters. this will reduce the slop (deflection) of the bushings from side to side, and will let the rtabs last much longer. the other option is to go with polyurethane. i got polys because it is cheaper than stock + GC limiters, and it will be easier to install (you dont have to fabricate a bearing press tool). and, on top of that, you will have less deflection and i have heard an almost unnoticable increase in NVH (the ride is no less comfortable).

The reason why I said that is because I personally dont' think it's as big of a problem as you guys think it is.

From what I have seen, it's only a "big problem" when it is damaged or broken.

I asked Geordie months ago and he said they only do it if they installed/sold something and it needs it. They won't do just rolling.

I am not going to replace them unless they need replacing. Even then they only cost like $40 and the time it takes me to install them. :stickoutt
