Thinking of mounting a pair up front.. Just curious.

I think it's 38mm. I might be wrong though.

Stock offset for E36 M3 wheels for '96 to '99, in 7.5 and 8.5 x 17 are 41 mm. Rears should fit up front with 235/40-17, and most 245/40-17s except for Kumho MX, Bridgestone S-03 Pole Positions and Hoosier R3S04/A3S04; these brands run unusually wide in 245/40-17.
I think it's 38mm. I might be wrong though.

Oddly enough, if they were 38 mm for 8.5 wide, there would be no problem fitting all brands of 245/40-17s up front LOL :)

S-O3s in 245/40-17 fit just fine on the front of my car on stock 17x8.5" wheels with no spacer.

245/40-17 BFG KDs required a spacer.
