is there supposed to be pressure towards the outside of the car. kinda like if the half shaft is supposed to be spring loaded towards the hub? if so i think i have a bad one. and could i replace the one or should i replace both?

No, there is no spring loading. The major thing to go bad on them would be the CV joints. If they are bad, I would think that the would make a clicking sound as the half shafts turn. Do this with the back of the car jack up off the ground.

here is a recap on the symptoms:
with the e-brake on i get a clunk everytime i push down on the rear right. and while driving when i reverse it sounds like one pop of something falling out of place, once i roll forward it sounds like it goes back to where it needs to be. and if i am driving for a while and at a slow speed pull the e-brake it sounds like something pops back into place on the first pull of the e-brake. if i do it again there is no noise whatsoever and it just slows the car down like normal. it really only does it when trasitioning from front to back. like when i go in reverse i hear one clunk, then another once i go forward. after the first clunk i don't really hear anything else.

I don't know where you're at in NJ but I live in allentown, PA, so if you want to stop by I would be more than willing to take a look at it. I read your other article "12 gauge" and the only thing I can think of is that your parking brakes need adjusted. You might want to check the front diff bolt too (near the driveshaft). These are known to loosen and bend which can cause a clunk. However, the clunk normally happens upon on and off the gas. Let me know if I can help.

i certainly appreciate the offer! i just made an appointment to get the car fixed cause i am at my wits end. an i though it could be the diff bolt too, so i ordered the AA diff brace and installed it on saturday. the bolt was slightly bent but not terrible and the noise is still there after the install.
