I have a 95 so the tape deck sounds pretty bad, plus it looks old. I want something that looks stock but im not willing to pay $400 for the cd43. So what aftermarket cd players do you guys have? I want something without 50 colors and if possible still controls the cd changer.

check out the nakamichi's.
Oh yea I remember looking at them a while back when they first came out with an indash 6 disk cd player. I can justify spending $400 on a nakamichi deck. Thanks.

you arent going to get much for under 300. try alpine, kenwood, and clarion. they all have low end models and are good quality

alpine 9855...matches perfectly with stock amber
The Nakamichi CD-400 is the only one that "worked" for me. Please, for humanity's sake, have someone install it who knows all about antenna issues with our cars. You'll be better off not even doing it if you can't find a good installer.

When using an aftermarket deck on a car with H/K do you hook the new deck up to the stock amp without using any of the internal power from the deck?
This would pretty much mean that almost any CD deck would work with the E36 because you would only be using it for the CD and radio correct?

I went MP3 player with a cassette adapter. True, not as clean, but theft proof, no need to hack your harness, unlimited playback (no fiddling/losing CD's) and basically free.

Clarion DXZ 945MP. Best audio upgrade in terms of sound quality. I had a cheap one that matched colors, but the difference in quality is unbelievable. Also it is a touch screen which chicks dig.
