The more I see wheels with a stepped lip the more I like them. They're just somehow more agressive than just a giant lip. So lets see what you've got!
Examples:
BBS LM
ACS Type II Racing
Fikse FM5s and FM10s
HRE 540 series
DarksideE36

Stepped lips are actually how the lips are supposed to be on old skool wheels, the new flat bigger lips are just the other side of the barrel. They mount the barrel backwards to make for a bigger flat lip. Stepped lips are the way to go.
Anyway, here are my wheels... awaiting rubbers.

little story about my fm10s:
when i first bought my car, it came with the fm10s, as well as another one as a spare in the trunk.
saw it, didnt like the rims too much, but got the car anyways, thought i could sell the rims and get another set i liked.
moment i put up a feeler post, i got a grip of offers like no other. then a friend told me id be stupid to sell them because of their light weight and whatnot. (i originally came from a benz, so amgs and all that was all i knew). moment i heard that, i immediately took them off the market.
now i love them do death. guess it took a while to love them. :redspot
plus i dont really see alot of fm10 equipped cars around here, only see them online.

I like them both, just on different applications.
Stepped lip for that sporty/race look, reverse lip for that clean classy look.

How do you like those ROH wheels? I haven't heard much about them but can't you get them in any color you want? Aren't they really well priced? Weight?
PS: They arern't stepped but they look great.

How do you like those ROH wheels?
I'm really impressed with them so far, the paint finish is great and it seems to be a really well built wheel.
I haven't heard much about them but can't you get them in any color you want?
You can only order them with the centres painted black, white, gold, silver or shadow chrome. They can be made to order in any size/offset though.
Aren't they really well priced? Weight?
I'm not sure what they sell for in the US, but a 19x8 wheel with a painted centre retails for $854AUD (About $650US each) The 9.5's would be a little more. Not sure on weight but they're slightly lighter than my previous wheels.
PS: They arern't stepped but they look great.
Ahh ok.. sorry for the mix up. I just figured this "older" style were classified as a stepped lip as they recently released the Modena with a flat lip :)

TireRack sells them in a 5x120 with the proper offset for our m3s.

stepped lips are def. the way to go. I used to run 17x8 et18 Fikse FM-10's and they had about a 2" stepped lip on them, looked awesome on the car. Now I run 17x8.5et13 BBS RS and they have a 2 1/4" stepped lip on them that looks even hotter. Here's a link to my car with various wheels on it

17" BBS RS, 17" Fikse FM10, 18" BMW Style 5 for comparison shots
