I'm looking at buying a 96 328is, but the windows act strange, and I'm wondering if anyone can shed some light on this for me:
Sometimes (not all the time), when the window is about halfway rolled down, and I try to roll it up, it goes up about 5 inches, then stops and goes down 5 inches. Try to roll it up again, and it does the same thing. After dicking around with it for a minute (all the way down, kill the ignition, halfway up, all the way down, etc.) it finally went back up again.
Anyone experienced anything like this? Just a window motor or signs of bigger electrical issues?

Power windows sometimes behave erratically, moving up or down in 1"-3" increments. This is due to a magnet on the motor shaft falling out of position. The magnet can be moved back into position to correct this problem.
Do a search on this and I am sure you will find a DIY fix. I will try to find my write up on it and post it.
Good Luck

Sometimes my right front window will go down, and will not go back up. But if I wait a minute, it will go up? It's driving me through a wall.

recently had this problem and replaced the motor with a used one. fixed the problem. im going to take apart the old one and see if the magnet was the culprit. while you have the door apart, check the tracks and the sliders to see if they are still greased up and holding in place. they tend to break.
