If you're on dial-up, go make a cup of coffee or something and read a book, this will take a while, but hopefully you'll find it worth it.
Sorry about the beat-up cover.

"A bottle of Thunderbird and a snifter of Hennessy are both inotxicating in their own right, but the cognac is much more of a treat for the senses."
-Car & Driver comparing the M6 to Corvettes and the like.
They wrote so much better back then. If something sucked, they said, "Hey, this is crap." Now they say, "It's not befitting a car of this price." It's like they're talking down to the reader now. Whatever....
Thanks for the scans! :buttrock

No problem! I thought I'd share since I enjoyed the article so much. I'll try to scan in what I can find on various Bimmers in our ridiculous archive of magazines here.
I gotta say, I'll be thinking heavily about approaching the owner of the one in this area and asking if they want to sell and if they're unsure to at least keep me in mind for the future.
Imagine that on some big 18s or maybe even 19s....
Damn this sickness!

I think that his pretty much sums up all of the cars BMW makes:
"What sets the M6 apart from the crowd is the quality of the experience. A bottle of Thunderbird, and a snifter of Hennessy are both intoxicating in their own right, but the cognac is much more of a treat for the senses.
In the M6's case, the numbers tell only half the story. From the exotic symphony of it's highly stressed machinery, to the cool, confident way it carries out your commands, to its exemplary quality, the whole ends up being far greater than the sum of the parts.
There's no arguing, though. If you're a true aficionado, the M6 is gonna get you. Anything as Mmmm-good as this car always does.

Speaking of magazine articles, back in 1997 Road and Track did an article on a Hellrot E36 M3 sedan. Does anyone have it? I WANT IT!

Aaron, I'm going to try to scan all the good BMW-related articles as I find them in our stash of old car mags, so I might have it up someday. No ETAs or promises as to when, but I'm more than happy to scan in stuff that my fellow Bimmerphiles might enjoy.

Thanks !
that was great.
I'm close to having my six series back on the road. A major deer collision last November followed by other priorities, etc.
Making plans to dsrive it to the USGP next month.
great article. I love my six series !

You do realize that you are now required to post pics, right? :12: We need more 6ers to look at and appreciate!

will do.
I'm going to make you wait awhile longer though. We got the primed yesterday. Planning to paint it next weekend. I'm pretty psyched - I located euro bumpers, air dam and rear spolier to incorporate on this US spec automobile.

Prairieman,
When will she be up and running again? I've got to do bodywork on my 6er too. Damn iron oxide.

hello beastie !
it has been a quite a journey. crashed the car in November (one damn big deer...). found a euro parts car on the roadfly board for 800 bucks in December. Installed the close ratio 5-speed in January. Too cold to do anything more until spring. Spring came and other priorities prevented any progress. Finally caved into my oldest son's plea to attend the USGP a couple months ago, and decided the "shark" should be the car to drive. The crash broke the upper timing cover and bent the distributor, broke the radiator and fan. Stole those parts from the euro. Got it running and driveable about three weeks ago. THAT was a glorious day - back on the road under power. Fabricated a short shifter, which worked terrific.
Got the shetmetal nose replaced a couple weeks ago and have been working out small dents and dings last week. Bought late model euro bumpers last week as well. Also have an M-technic spoiler. This thing should be SWEEEET ! Planning to paint next weekend (2002 BMW steel gray metallic). That will give me three weeks to put it all together and drive it locally before heading to Indy. I'll post pics after it's assembled - before, during and complete.

Congrats are in order! It's been a long road that not many souls would take. I still don't know what to do about my car. Needs fenders, door and a sunroof. Motor is rebuilt w/ 1500 miles.
I remember the post on roadfly. Didn't you get the car from Chicago or something?

that's the car.
the owner picked me up at O'hare (cashed in flier miles) we went to his house to swap money and title. I was heading back to Kansas within an hour of arrival. The car ran like a scalded dog, but was very badly rusted in the floorboards and strut towers.
I don't think I could have afforded to fix it, buying parts individually.
Once I get it going, I will turn to the euro engine. Freshen it and install it. next year...

Please, yes, do send me that...I'm needing a change of wallpaper. :D evlgt85@foureyedpride.com And thank you VERY much!
Any angles would be great. Nice 3/4 shots, head on...whatever you feel like doing. That is such a beautiful specimen of an M6. I think I can speak for all of us in saying that any shots of that car are likely to be good ones!
And I'd like to encourage you to post pics in the Bimmer Rides area as well...it'd be nice to see some more unusual BMWs represented.
I saw a stunning black 6er just last night, non-M, but a wonderful machine none the less. I'm starting to lean heavily towards an M6 in the future.

Resurrecting an old thread, but after doing some searching for M6 stuff, I've noticed that my scans have shown up elsewhere. I was looking at a site, and thought "That beat up cover looks familiar." Sure enough, it's my magazine, my scans. Do a Google Image Search for "M6 brochure" and you'll see two different sites come up. Ah, well. :)

Great article! Back when Car and Driver didn't suck. I can't even read the magazine anymore, is it just me or does it feel really "dumbed down"? Just my .02. Road and Track will always be better in my opinion.
Thanks for resurrecting this great article!

Hmm...car in the article looks familiar. :D When we bought ours, the owner actually had 2 copies of that C&D along with a bunch of other stuff. One copy is in a plastic bag and in mint condition and another one for reading...nice bonus...
