I'm a new bmw owner, bought a nice 1983 E23 (733i), and I'm wondering about the "E23" part I think it has somthing to do with "chasis ID" is this correct, if not can someone please explain to me what it's significance is...

I would appreciate it!

Thank you in advance

Yup, e23 is the chassis code for your car. You have one of the orignal 7 Series cars. They then moved on to the e32 in '87, the e38 in '94, and then the e65 and e66 in '03.

Now how about a good source for parts/aftermarket parts & accessories like grills lights trim spoilers things like that, i found one, but it goes back as far as 85 and i dont what will cross over... well anyway, thanx again...

not sure if you've tried these sites (and I'm not positive if they go to 83 but i think they do) www.partstrain.com and www.autopartsauthority.com are the places that I get all my OEM stuff from. I also get my OEM stuff from the good people in this community, there's always good stuff for sale. Ebay isn't too good for OEM parts, but it's probably the best for aftermarket.

Was the e32/e34 like a half year thing? I have a 49, and it's an e32, I love it either way though :)

Edit: nevermind, per the e code link, you may have just mistaken.
