View Full Version : e30 vs e36 for inside room.

When I was a CarMax I got to sit in an '02 330i 4dr. With the seat all the way back I had plenty of front to back room for my 6'4", 275lb frame but the side to side room was kind of tight. One thing I really didn't like was that the door piller between the front and back door was right by my head. In a side impact my head would be toast. This leads me to a 2 dr. so they'll be no piller to worry about but I'd still like more side to side room. Do the older e30's have more room in em' then the newer e36's. If they do then that'll pretty much clinch my choice as to which one I'm getting. Plus, I've seen some nice e30's going for well under $4K, price IS an factor in what I get. Talk to ya'll later.

E30 is a cozy interior. If you don't fit in an E46, don't bother going to check out an E30.

So what are my options? I really don't want to move up to a 5 Series because part of my reason for getting the car is mpg and the V8's in the 5's don't do any better then my truck. I guess I really need to sit in a few different BMW's and see which one's I fit into and which I don't. Thanks.

the 528i or 525i are very cozy and not too bad on gas. Try it.
I'm about 6'1", and when I stretch my arm out, I touch the other door of my E30. The car fits me perfectly ergonomically, everything is in the right place, and 4 of my friends even fit comfortably, but any bigger than that and it's definately a no-go.

The last small car that I owned that I really liked was a '76 Toyota Celica convertable(at least IIRC it was a '76) anyway, I fit into it ok but then I was about 100lbs lighter too. I just wonder what I need to get into to fit comfortable.

I'm confused when you say price is a factor when you were looking at a 02 330i I'm guessing had a price of around 22K at least then you have priced some e30's under 4K. That is a huge step in price and technology. Just curios. And yes, if you felt "tight" in e46 you will feel even tighter in an e30. They are pretty small inside.

You can get 30 MPG in a 6 cylinder 5 series. Might be a better fit.

I know I can't afford the 330, I just sat in it for shits and giggles to see what it'd be like. Never sat in a Bimmer before, thought I'd use the time at CarMax to give it a try. I need to take a day and hit a BMW dealer and sit in a few different cars to see what's comfortable I guess. Talk to ya'll later. :redspot
