I have been using Amsoil 0W-30W for the last two changes and am very pleased with the performance boost (I think) I'm getting, plus the knowledge that I'm using really good lube.
The problem is that even with my prefered discount, Amsoil is pretty damn expensive (especially when I forget to preorder and have top pay retail) compared to the deals on Mobil 1 I see at Wal-Mart and other stores.
I may go to Mobil 1 next change simply for financial reasons, as well as better availability. Can I expect a change in performance? Is there any harm in going from 0W-30W to 5W-30W? My car is a daily driver...actually daily aggressive driver.
Thanks for the info in advance!!:)

No response? Has this been hammered into the ground? If it has, where can I get answers?

The oil subject has been pretty much been hammered into the ground.
If you do a search for "oil*" or "*oil*" you should get a bunch of results.
That being said, I used to use 5W-30 because BMW said so, they also said that the valve ticking upon cold start up was normal too. I changed to 0W-30, problem solved.

Thanks Kev. You're a reliable source of info.
I'm planning to stay with 0W-30W because of exactly what you stated. I am really just trying to save a few bucks, but I don't want to give up the quality I know I have with Amsoil just to do
changes cheaper. I see on these posts that a LOT of guys use
Mobil 1 with apparently no negative benefits.

I don't think there would be any negative effects... I personally haven't tried the Mobil1 0W-30 because no place around here carries it. So I just have the Amsoil delivered directly to me or to my shop.
I figure if I'm going to sell their oil, I might as well use it in my car...

I haven't made the jump to dealer status yet, because I don't know what the market here in north Texas would be like and I can get the same discount as a preferred customer.
I did a change today as a matter of fact, and only had five quarts left of a case so I had to pay retail ($8.20) a quart for three more quarts. I guess I'm really bitching about a little thing, saving $21.00 max every change is not earth shattering.
Besides, I know Amsoil is a great lube and the peace of mind
is a factor too.

First off, preferred customer and delear are pretty much the same thing. If you are a preferred customer, you should always get the preferred customer price of $6.30/qt instead of $8.10/qt. I'm not sure why you ended up paying $8 instead of $6. I haven't paid full price for the stuff since I became a dealer 3 years ago...
Preferred Customers and Dealers get the oil at wholesale prices...

Actually Kev  , it is because (as usual) I forgot to order before time for a change came up, and had to buy what I could.
The differance is minimal if I do order at preferred pricing.

FWIW, I've used Mobil 1 5-30 in my 130K mile 4 banger since I got it back around 120K. This engine is run mostly in autocross and track situations, I've began a series of oil tests, and so far they look fine.
I use M1 for that reason, too, I want one oil I can stick in both the M3 and 318, and since the M3 uses a lot of oil, its keeps me from having to plan ahead too much, and can be had relatively inexpensively.
Testing results seem to show Amsoil's a great product too.
