RPM fluctuation

Hello,

I have a 95 325i auto. When cruising at about 55 mph, and I push down on the gas pedal to down shift my RPMs fluctuate about 500 rpms, it happens sporadically. Like it goes from 3000 and fluctuates to 2500. Anyone have an idea what might be causing this? It idles fine, and the motor sounds normal.

I have the same problem :mad! whenever i'm crusing at 55 the damn tach jumps from 2500 to 3000, making the car jolt forward and backward. I notice it when i have my foot on the gas but then I'll take it off and it keeps doing that till the car slows under like 50. I've posted about it a couple of times, hopefully someone figures out what the problem is. I haven't had time to take it back to my mechanic. My solution in the mean time is just drive 80mph!

Failing torque converter maybe?

Yeah, I have a feeling it has to do with the transmission, mine is an auto too. Maybe at 55mph it thinks it should shift so the RPMs go up, and then it shifts back, lowering the RPMs, I don't know much about transmissions, just that its $$$ to fix. ahhhh, I wish I had more money.
