Hey whats up + 1 exhaust question.

Hey how it going? i just joined. ...two weeks ago i bought a 96 328i with 135k on it for $5K. I was wondering what this valve in my muffler is for. My muffler has dual outlets and only the outlet on the right has the valve. when my car is running the valve is shut and it's open when my car isn't running. It really confuses me because all i have grown up with is american muscle and as you know the rednecks solution to stock exhaust is straight pipes all the way. I'm not a redneck but my brother is or was. Well i just need to know this one thing for now...i will probably have more questions later. ~Tyson

its a vacum line controled valve that helps to make the car quieter on startup. pull the hose off the muffler and jam a golf tee in there. tape the hose up so its not dangling, and enjoy the new sounds coming out.

I thought the general purpose inaddition to above, was to add a little bottom torque... albiet, I really didn't feel it/ miss it when I plugged it up.

Its a good first mod for a new bimmer owner :)

That is why it's their....Geuss it doesn't do much though.
