I'm not sure what the 96 motor/switch brings with it, but this writeup should get you started:

i should clear things up...
my car presently have the sunroof. want to upgrade the sunroof motor..so that i could have the 1-touch open function.
I'm going to retrofit an electric sunroof control in my E30 soon. It currently has a manual sunroof. From looking into the process, I really wish I didn't have to fuss around up there.
If I were you, I'd just design a circuit that will do the one touch functionality. It really is a pretty simple circuit. Then you don't need to bother retrofitting new motors and harnesses. All you need to do is shove the small circuit near the switch and call it a day.
bump for some answers.....
in order to get the auto open feature, i need to get a 96+ sunroof motor.... how difficult is the swap? if its just the motor i need to switch, all i have to do is take off the sunroof motor panel, take out 95 motor & put in 96+ motor and call it a day, right??

From what I understand you just need the new motor and switch. Throw em in and it'll work.

You can also get the sunroof eclipse unit and have 1 touch close.

that doesnt work on 95's that did NOT come with at leat one touch open already.
you must already have one touch open to use the sunroof eclipse

thats what RRSperry meant. he said you can also do the sunroof eclipse (on top of the 96+ sunroof motor).
ok, going to the junkyard tomorrow.....
so, using this pic as a reference, just take off the torx screws, unplug the wires, and it should fall right out, correct?
