The DFW Poker Meet is coming. Scheduled activities for the night include a photo shoot with our cars using the downtown skyline as a backdrop, grilling burgers, drinking beer, and of course playing poker. In downtown rent is anywhere from $1-$1.25 a square foot. You can buy starting at around $200k. Uptown/Victory is insane. I checked into the price of the condos at the W Hotel they are building in Victory. They wanted $400k for 800 and some square feet!

Thus far it looks like most people prefer the rooftop on a Friday night. I'm going to see if I can reserve the rooftop for Friday November 4th. I'll let everyone know when I have it confirmed.

The structure of the poker playing will be heavily influenced by the number of people that commit to attending. I generally like dealer's choice. I would like to keep it friendly. Maybe even make it a learning night, so everyone can get up to speed. (Russians and Asians included)

As for buy-in, I would like to keep it low so the night is accessible to everyone. Especially because we're assembling a group of people that all have cars with some of the highest maintenance cost on the planet. I would rather people put a 100 bucks towards a new H&R spring set than a poker buy-in.

Then again if the buy-in is high enough, a winner could walk away with enough loot to buy a set of coil-overs. :-)

We're going to be downtown, I'm going to be cautious about posting my address on an internet forum. This weekend I am going to put a website together for the meet. It will have a registration form where I'll collect email addresses and contact info. I want to be able to email directions directly to people. I also want to maintain a contact list, so we can make this a more regular event. I will also use the site to post pics from the meet.

As for the time, Nov 4th is after daylight savings time. This means if we want any daylight we'll have to meet around 5:00 PM. Then around 6:00 PM we could throw the burgers on the grill. That would mean starting the games by 7:00 PM.

I'm not worried about the jack on this one. This meets on me. I'm covering the soda, food, and beer. The only thing people need to pay for is their poker buy-in. Even if that's a problem, we can work something out.

A far as helping. I've got this one covered. I might need help finding a couple folding tables to borrow. Additionally, it's never to early to start thinking about the next event. Let me know if you have any ideas for a venue or what to do.

The only thing I ask from the under 21 attendees is that they refrain from drinking the alcoholic beverages. My wife won't let me host more meets if I get prosecuted for provide alcohol to underage persons.

Plus, I would love to see your E30 vert. There's a slim chance I may buy a E30 vert of my own on Monday.

Some good news though. Getting a new mirror shouldnt be too expensive because lots of E46 coupe guys get M3 mirors so they'll sell their original mirrors for cheap. I also ordered clears last night. I will be ordering GC coilovers by the end of the week.

Yes and no. It has a bar. It's called 18.5. It's the only known skybar in existence that doesn't have windows. The bad news is that 18.5 doesn't have a liquor license. The good new is since they can't charge for it, they give the drinks away for free--if you know the right person.

I'm still trying to get the site up. I got delayed. My M3 left me stranded the night before last. The clutch slave cylinder failed. I had to tow it to the shop and deal with all of that crap. Plus I'm in the middle of buying a 2002 M Coupe.

OK the site is done, but I'm waiting on my hosting company to fix the permissions on the database. Because I can't write to the database, there is very little content. This also means that registration for the event isn't working yet.

I decided to make the site my personal BMW blog. Of course since I can't update the database, I can't post my first blog entry. (Not that I have much in my life that's of interest anyway.)

At least I'm almost there.

The site will feature my Blog, Links to BMW junk I like, DFW BMW events (AKA Bf.c Poker Nights, etc), event registration, and pictures from meets. Everything is there except the picture section. It isn't there because I don't have any meet pictures yet. (Note: that was meet pictures not meat pictures!) I also was to put together a page that lets you see who has registered for an event.

It's my damn hosting service. They have been haviing problems for the past couple days. It's nearly impossible to get support from them because the are located in India. The crazy thing is that their datacenter is here in Dallas. If I knew the address, I would go fix the server myself!

No, I have whats considered the new emachines( gateway clone...i think its gateway) laptop. The hinges are broke, the screen doesnt close, and the screen falls down(ie-mut sit vertical). Other then that its been great. I have the extended waranty BS I just cant be at school without a computer for a month. Its roughly 1.5 yrs old.
