What are the pros/cons of the 92 deg vs 88 deg thermostats avialable for my car?

the 92 is what it comes with but will an 88 deg unit hurt it? Or make it run better?

Thanks guys....

Get the 88 degree. Slightly lower temperatures is good for the engine's life and performance. The T-stat will open 4 degrees earlier allowing quicker coolant circulation.
Too cold = Too hot = no good!

Does this meon my car will take longer to warm up? Why would BMW issue the 92 if the 88 helps motor life?

Bump? Yrying to purchase a thermostat quickly. Autohaus AZ seems to be the only one that offers both temps for my car.

Im worried the 88 one would make my car run less efficient burning more gas and running slower? I have been reading around and that seems to be the argument for keeping the stock tstat temp of 92.

Deos anyone have any more insight on this or know where I can read more about it?

Ive had trouble finding ANYTHING in searches.

Thanks!

80!? What! Why did BMW make it 92 if these other units are supposed to be safe/better?

both the 88 and 92 are stock. the other temps are for racing applications or fan delete.

just grab the lower 88 if this is the azn car, then the t-stat will open 4 degrees cooler like mentioned above and start the coolant cir.

Thanks for the replies. Its a Pacific Northwest (Washington) car. Average temp here is 51F, average summer high of 70. Winter low of like 20 but it doesnt stay freezing during the day. (Yes I just looked those numbers up lol)

Do I want 88 or 92 for that?

88 would be fine. its only 4 degrees we are talking about.

Would 88 be preferred?

Should I just make this a poll lol?

I've been having a bit of trouble getting my car up to temp in cold weather w/ the 80C fan delete kit.... I was running a 70/30 mix last winter and had to swap it out for a 50-50 because it just wouldn't warm up, unless I left the heat off until it got up to normal operating temps.

If Im not an isolated case, then being to forced a higher mixture of anti-freeze to water offsets alot (if not all) the value of running a lower termostat.

In your case the 7F difference will probably do nothing for you, if your in a climate that has cold winters, stay w/ the 92....... warmer climates go w/ the 88.

Just something to consider.........
