Who's personally experienced bad/ bonehead results from jump starting any BMW and/or doing something sooo Bone-headed=costly, on your BMW; that you just shoulda known better, than to try and do?

Come on, spill them beans and cleanse yourself.

Wanna say that up front, I am dumb but I aint no retard (momma got me tested). This is my 3rd 3-series BMW and my 2nd vert I have always used jumping cables to start them if I inadvertly left lights on and caused drained battery.

Example: My main BMW is my e34 530i and e34s has no beep sound for headlights when key is removed; only has the lil icon on instrument cluster, which isnt visible under daytime lighting conditions, so if I drive during daytime rainstorm then rain clears up before I stop, yes I do, sometimes, forget when exiting car that opps I turned lights on for rain.

So heres my personal best and why I believe I deserve this forums Professional Bone-Head Gold Medal Weekend Tuner award. Not silver, not bronze, G.O.L.D. baby;

and Unless you can top this one, Man don't even try and compete.

I jump started my 325ic this weekend using my Wifes convertible Cobra.

Results were 2 fried vert top motors and 1 fried window motor.

How'd I do it you ask? Well, The Cobra was parked behind BMW so I figured, why not hook up jumper cables Directly to the car battery located in trunk of BMW instead of hassling to turn car around to reach charging post under hood. Wife said "maybe you should'nt do that" of course I am a BMW Asspert, so I ignored her and hooked em up anyway.

wait, Whats that burning smell, Oh &*it; Wrong move. Dag gone it, I want my Mammmaaa...

I didnt realize this is a huge risk for voltage surges/spikes. Which fry BMW electronics until After it happened than I ran and I searched message boards forums.

Also turns out battery was actually on last legs AND due to be replaced anyway AND so charging would not have fixed it AND was just $107 for a new one from NAPA.

Now my total cost = $107 battery + between $350 - $800 for both of verts top motors and door motor.

Mammaa wheres my bottle of Jack Daniels? Whats that, Nope.. no glass needed, just bring me the bottle. http://www.marvunapp.com/Appendix/bonehead2.jpg

So what bonehead story AND the results have you had with Your car?
Or is the gold medal award all mine, by a mile?

ok....I've only jumped my car once and had to use the poles under the hood because of how it was parked. I've jumped NUMEROUS other cars and hooked directly up to the battery (including an 02 3 series) and have NEVER fried anything. You sure you hooked the cables up right? Red to red....black to black/frame.....

Hey...someone had to ask that last question...

He's not asking for help...He's sharing a story about his boneheadedness...if that's a word...He's asking for the rest of us to share our boneheaded stories as well...

I only have a small one compared to you and it didnt' cost me any money cuz I didn't replace it!

I was taking out the windshield reservoir from my car + sensors/motor/hoses...

I couldn't get the damn clip off the hose that connects to the motor...They arn't like normal clips they are BASTARRDDY clips...anyways long story short I pry that baby off and in turn break off the little plastic tip off my windshield wiper motor...(so much for selling it now)...so I try to glue it back together and see if it'll work, but to no avail for some odd reason...I decide to rip everything out and lose some weight...

The piece was only 50 dollars but I never replaced it cuz I figure I don't need windshield wiper fluid anyways...

End of story? nothing compared to your gold medal tho'...
