I just bought a 2000 M roadster engine and trans. I just want to make sure it is exactly that. How can I tell if someone just didn't swap valve covers. Are there any code locations? Thanks

Do you have the VIN of the car they came out of? If so - Carfax or carcheck will tell you what they think the car is.. (free even - where they try to convince you to pay for a full report...)

I have the VIN of the car it supposedly came out of. But what is stopping them from giving me the wrong cars VIN to make me think the engine is newer?
