Is there foam that you can buy to replace the insulation under the hood...mine is falling to pieces? Or does anyone have a better idea of what to change it out with to make it look more appealing?

The original foam was just that... adhesive back foam. The replacement foam BMW now sells is better than what was originally on, but not by much.

There is some alternatives. Try JC Whitney, they have aluminum backed stuff that you cut to fit if you don't want the OEM route.

i was thinking that fatmat or dynamat or any of those other heat resistant insulation stuff made for underhood.

Just pressure washed off the old gunky one on my tii .. it was pretty nasty after 30+ years :)

Go to a heating/AC supply store and ask them about the foam products they use. I picked up a large piece to do the entire underhood area last year (not installed yet). It has a smooth surface, so easy clean-up, and looks stock enough.

home depot has it and it's much less expensive....look in the heat and air conditioner isles...it's pipe wrap

use a good spray adhesive to fasten it to the metal

Good to know - will check it next visit while I'm looking for a 2' piece of pipe wrap for my jack handle - to keep it off the paint.
