My question is whether a bolt-on Cone Intake is legal or not?
A intake by Dinan comes with a info sticker stating its legality, but what about other aftermarket intakes without such stickers?.

Would a cone intake system without a sticker get you into any trouble? Specifically with a police vehicle inspection.

Yes, if your talkin about illegal street racing, they will always check for that CARB NO. If you dont then you would have to go to the state ref after the cop gives you a ticket.
It is fine if they dont pop your hood, but most cops that stops you for speeding or anything other than the races, they wont ask to pop your hood.
Remember, only highway patrol can ask to see under your hood because they are state ref certified. So they know what to look for. Regular cops dont know whats goin on. So if you see a regular cop that pulls you over and ask to see under you hood, ask to see proof of being a state ref.
Hope that helps. Ive been to many illegal street racing and know whats goin on.

If the intake or setup does not come with the Carb Legal sticker you are asking for extra hassle and trouble.

What about a home made setup with a K&N cone filter? K&N says 50 state legal but they don't come with a sticker by any means.

Yep Aaron, it's pretty much a Cali only type concern.

I dont think just he K&N filter will pass. They still will give you a ticket cause you dont have a sticker. They are dicks like that.

I don't think they do because they are homemade with a basic cone filter.
Do the J.C. Intake systems come with the carb sticker?

I dont think so. I believe only intake that come with a sticker is the dinan one.

How hard would it be to just make a sticker that says CARB or whatever and just stick it on there? I mean they aren't gonna know that Dinan is the only brand that is certified for a BMW. Or is it some kind of hologram decal thing like a drivers license thats hard to replicate?

I think this is how the CARB sticker looks like. It seems like it does have some sort of hologram effect and Phone numbers from the makers.

So if you get a ticket for an illegal intake, what is the ticket? A fine or a fix it ticket. Its not a big deal to put the stock one back on so they can make a visual insptection.

Yeah its just a fix it tix. but when you get caught in illegal racing, they want you to go to state ref to get a visual and smog checked. Its just a pain
