Went to hit second gear the shifter knob pops off. Any fix? Any good aftermarked knob out there that secures properly?

Chances are the little clips broke in your knob. Same thing happened to me about 2 months ago. Gave me the perfect excuse to go and buy another illuminated one since mine was getting warped and the light burned out.
There are a few decent knobs out there. I personally love the OEM leather illuminated ones. Just don't death grip the shifter, and gently move the knob into gear, no real reason to slam it in. You could always put some doublesided tape down the inside of the shift knob and jam it on there...

You can search in the for sale area here, sometimes people will sell theirs, you can also try www.pacificbmw.com It runs for about $110~ IIRC If you didn't have it already, you should definately at least check into it, makes the interior look nicer at night. Complements the other lights nicely :)

I used a MOMO Sphere in leather and boy was it just the greatest thing....
I actually bought an extra just incase they stopped making them. I sold the car I bought it for (FD3s) and so I kept it and still have two on the shelf... :D
You can get yours here..... Pelican (http://www.pelicanparts.com/catalog/shopcart/MISC/POR_MISC_moknob_pg5.htm)

I just got my new M3 yesturday and today, I ripped the shift knob off.
Eli- that momo shift knob looks good, but doesn't look as though it would fit all the way down on the shaft. Is it deep enough? or do you have to get a new shift boot or something. I've never really been a fan of universal shift knobs as they seem to never fit and the screws want to back off.
UUC makes great shift knobS!!!

The stock pull force is 90 pounds....so you've got some worn knobs out there is they are coming off when shifting. I just installed a SSK this weekend, it took 15 tries with all I have (trying to make sure I dont hit my head with it at the same time) before mine came off.......

To be honest, I haven't fitted on on the M3, I had this on the FD but I know it will be a little short on the book.... Not a big deal id you zip it from the inside out.

wrap electrical tape around the shaft where the bump is, where the knob "grabs" the shaft. Try a couple wraps, if that isn't tight enough, do a couple more. Works just fine.

Would that PPI be considered "a rip-off" then? :D

I have a AC Schnitzer Knob, but I personally like the sparco one, I forget which specific one, but it had a nice feel when shifting.

after i ripped mine off, i splurged for actives counterweighted one great feel and the added weight helps with the throws
I shot some silicone in the knob and stuck it back on. Still on there after 8 months so I guess its a "fix"?

Anyone have the Whalen Shift machine knob? I like those and the UUC ones...undecided at this point.
