UPDATE: See my last post

EDIT UPDATE: Audio clip (video on post 22)

A girl I know was driving a cavalier (2005 or so) and didn't see that I had stopped, and hit me. I was stopped behind a line of cars that were waiting for a school bus, and she didn't see that I had stopped. She was going around 7-10 mph, and I don't think she even hit her brakes.

My ansa folded up near the differential. I think it was the bracket on the trans that saved my exhaust manifold.

Oh well, I don't have to go to school till 10 AM, and I'll be driving my brothers diesel Mercedes for a while. :alright

Now no one can mock me for keeping the "diving boards." The cavalier submarined under my car, so her bumper is black from the carbon on my exhaust, and rubber from my bumper. It's a little rough and scratched too.

Is it safe to say the bracket that mounts the exhaust to the trans saved my exhaust manifold?

No increase in torque due to increased backpressure was noted, and I can't speak for the topend, since I didn't have it over 4000 rpm. My idle is hanging around 1500. I hope the DCOEs aren't busted.

Score one for the big bumpers. They may not look the best, but they save some bodywork now and then.

Nope the body is fine, and the trunk closes perfectly. The big bumper cars have added reinforcments to support the bumpers in the front and I think the same goes for the rear.

Now im just pissed.

Its a sick feeling when you hear that CRUMP isn't it? Man when that armored truck delivering cash backed into my tii I was like OH CRAP. Got out and he had only broke a tail light and gave my gi-normous rear bumper a work out. I had imagined my trunk and rear would be caved in.. thankfully no

That girl friend of yours gonna take care of things for you? Special favors ? :) :)

Wow...you got lucky then. My bro used to drive a big bumper car, and he got rear ended and his quarters crinkled slightly.

So consider yourself lucky. No body work needed, just need to replace some exhaust parts, which sux.

How fast was the other car going when he was hit?

I dont see how the big bumpers did anything. It doesnt even look like she hit the bumper. It looks like she went right under the car.

She did. I learned this a few hours ago. The bumper WAS hit though. But your right, the exhaust took the majority of the impact.

Below: The black is the rubber trim on the bumper and the silver is the bottom of the bumper.

In your case I dont think the exhaust manifold was saved from the tranny mount. To me it seems like your exhaust was pushed in on a zero plane(length) and from the force the molecules got in a bind and creased the exhaust. Thats my outlook from the pictures. I could be wrong but it just looks like a simple crease from being pushed in...

So your saying my manifold is OK?

Looks like I'll be replacing the center resonator, and rear muffler section. An easy job....once I get the 14 years of rusted piping off. Its bent up a bit past the differential.

Should I get an Ansa? I think the stock system will be too quiet.

Yes, I still like the Ansa on a 2002 regardless what some people say. For the price you cant go wrong.

Ditto. I put Ansa on my car and it sounds better than my buddie's V8:buttrock

My ansa sounds more like a V8 than my buddie's firebird does. I dont think it sounds ricey at all. I love how it sounds!!! But i also have a 292 cam, piano tops, and dcoe 45's. Dno if that makes a differenece or not.

Just for laughs, here's a video of the rear of my car with the muffler cut off.

Tii exhaust manifold into an Ansa resonator being dumped near the rear axles.

Listen to the lumpy idle from the cam. I wish I could drive it like this without getting a ticket. Its actually louder and meaner in person. The camera waters it down.

Max RPM: ~3000-3500~

Ha, it sounds like a boat. I seriously want to cut everything out (exhaust wise), install new headers and a glasspack and bend it out the passenger side.

HAHA...nice. My car sound almost exactly like that...but a little quieter. I love hearing the lumpy idle from the cam. Sounds f'in mean!!!

I ran a glasspack for a while, and it was LOUD. And i dont even have headers. But i got pulled over for it, i guess its not a smart idea to go under a bridge at full throttle wide open at nite time when you cant tell if there are cops around. Oh well, i replaced it w/ ansa, and it quieted my car down enough so that the troopers stopped complaining.

glad the car was ok other than the exhaust and small bumper damage.

that's one of the things i like about my 75 is the big bumpers. My friends all tell me I should remove them because it would look better, but I have been re-ended in my 75 at about the same speed as your accident and there was no body damage and the bumper was slightly pushed in on one side. Big bumpers stay!

In the second accident; the big rubber piece that wraps around, onto the side, saved the car.

Glad to see you did not sustain too much damage. I bet your neighbors love you rev up that boat motor! With no video your car sounds just like and outboard out of the water. Not bad really, just a little different.

I got rear ended by a fellow who wasn't even going 5 MPH and the driver side rear quarter buckled. I think the force of the blow transfers to the quarter panel via the plastic bellows between the bumper and the carbody.

You were very lucky to not have any other body damage.

I actaully got rear ended once in a 3 car pile up. I was sitting in traffic minding my own business when some crack head smoking beyotch in a Firebird (with no license and insurance I might add) plowed into a van, punched the van into a station wagon and into my car. I was the first car in line under the light. I heard the crunch and saw the headlights shine upwards with each impact but I couldn't pull forward because there were three lanes of rush hour traffic racing across my nose panel. I let the brakes off for the intial push and then squeezed them hard to keep from getting pushed through the intersection and obviously tee-boned.

I was really surprized to discover that the thin little euro bumper pancaked but there was no other damage. The energy absorbed by other two vehicles saved my ass. If she hit me directly I bet I would have ended up sitting in back seat!

It no longer sounds like a boat. I installed an Ansa Sport exhaust. I'm sure the neighbors just LOVE that too.!

I hope this girl pays for the damages. I really don't want to do anything stupid.
