dude im not thread jacking or hating but if you wanna sell your car be realistic. Although green might be to you the best color, its considered the ugly sister of the M3's. I personally think you have a very nice ride especially that interior:eek: but i think in your case more than other M's you will have to wait for the right buyer. Just be patient, if you need a sell asap drop your price more so you will hit more buyer. Just my 2 cents. I wish you the best. How much is carmax giving you BTW?

ahhhh . . well put I guess, but i think my "okay" had passive aggressive overtones while being far more clear and concise than you 4-6 sentence long winded "run-on" of an explaination.;)

which stock rims do you have, if you still have them?

dont have my stock wheels, i have a buddy that has a 95 with LTW rims i may trade plus $800 to a grand for.

I havent taken it to carmax, im guessing15k to 16.5k, but you never know, they give all the money for cars. I also may take it upto Manheim PA auto auction during their highline sale, i have seen plenty of clean 98 and 99 M3 bring 17 to 22k wholsale at the auction. You cant buy desireable cars cheap at the auction............not sure how many dealers would bid on a green M3, but mine has alot of eye appeal.

But that is last case scenario, i have a couple people from autotrader that are interested, i will see how that pans out.

i guess its just the color??? the car shows well, only had two people see it in person, zero objections, car is as described. I may just sell/trade plus cash my wheels and drop the price to $16,995 and get it sold.

infact if anyone want to buy for 16,995 with 17" LTW wheels(i think they are polished as well) with good rubber let me know, my buddy has a 95 M3 and wants my wheels.

If he has his stock headlights i may trade them as well for my zkws and hids.

OR YOU COULD JUST BUY THE CAR AS IT IS AND MAKE A GREAT BUY!!!!

m thrizl
10-24-2005, 04:33 PM
make me some offers, i can part out things that arent needed....i.e cd player, headlights for stockers, rims and tires for stock LTW's, actually, beyond that im not interested in the labor involved.

the cd player i will knock off $250, no stock radio included, find your own.

headlights can go back to stock. subtract $350

wheels can go to 17" polished LTW's with good rubber. subtract $1000

take all three off, and i will sell for $16,500.....i dare you to find a cheaper 99 5 speed coupe with less than 70k miles for that price! I cant belive i see 99's on autotrader with the same miles for $20k to $22k, green is not a $4k deduct! buy it, the color combo is gauranteed to grow on you!

I have no problem taking trades.......however, If i take a trade i take it for MY money, not KBB retail, just wholesale dollars.

car shows well in person, i still have to fix this stupid hood cable and dye the driver seat bolster, until that is done, i would rather not show the car.

the rain here is causing alot of delay on getting these things done.

car is located in norther VA, fairfax co.

hammer, i got a few pics i can send you, they are on my home cpu, i will try to remember to send you one.

im sure its a nice car, i used to sell those new back when they came out in 99............its just not convenient for me to take trades for retail money, plus 18k isnt far from wholesale money on a 99 m3 coupe with 67k miles, so the $$ difference isnt that bad........trade from 99 accord to 99 M3 with equal miles and condition for 9 or $10k and get $6k in modifications, or if you discredit the mods you gotta atleast give a thumbs up for having 18" BBS RC's.

gotta sell this month, cmon, someone out there has to be looking for a clean Fern green M3, if this is your preffered color, THIS IS YOUR BEST DEAL ON A M3!

968, thats the big 3.0L 4 cylinder right? pretty cool cars, good color and miles.......off the top of my head it sounds like a $15k retail car for a pristine example, maybe a little less being a tip??...........probably a 8 to 10k wholesale car..............but i dont have a grey book(older cars wholesale guide) on me, but a car like that, a P car nonetheless, is "retail" merchandise, good color, good miles, hard to find...........so you would look those cars up on ebay to find their true market value.

If i dont sell my car in next couple of weeks i may spiff it up and take to Manheim PA dealers auction for their highline sale to see what it will bring.

Nice car Im interested but I wana think about it for a while.

the rears are not oem clears, these came off of my 95 m3(the guy who bought my 95 wanted the stock lights, so i swapped), they are of teh ebay origin but work/look/and fit fine. I also installed smoked front corners after i snapped the factory clip off one of the amber corners.

car is tight and clean.........i wouldnt say its the nicest 99 M3 on the market, but from what i have seen it is certainly one of the better buys.

steering is tight, susp is tight, brakes are tight, no broken pieces of missing items excpept for the fog lights that i removed that were cracked.

stereo is stock except for alpine 9835 cd/mp3 player that i wouldnt mind keeping for a $200 deduct.

i am selling because i have lost my license and will not have it back for another 5 months and could use the money for other things.

as far as "issues" go there are maybe 2 or three minor things that i have noticed that i would call "issues" if this were a 2002 bmw, but for a 99 its pretty damn solid..........the car drives flawlessly and is 5 times nicer/cleaner/tighter than my last m3 which was a 95 with 98k miles

absolute worst case scenario if you were to buy my car is that you would get what you paid for, i happen to think the car is a pretty damn good buy for the price considering what else is out there.

kdervy- if you have anyother questions, you can call me on my cell 703-798-3402, i can arrange shipping, it is easy to get a quote, just google search for a free quote.

I'm quite interested in the car myself ... thought I'd wait until I purchased an M3 before posting here, but hey. Better to get it from someone who cared about their car than from some random. I'll get back to you with an offer soon. I tried earlier but bimmerforums wouldn't let me PM you. Maybe upping my post count to "1" will change that.

What is your zip code Christian? Is the wiring still thar for the fog lights - just need lenses/buckets?

m thrizl
11-07-2005, 09:13 PM
i live in Northern VA, Fairfax county, 22033.

the fog lights can be reinstalled just fine, just need new fog lamp assemblies.......or you can install fog light delete covers that can be ordered from bmw, paint em to color match or leave black to match the moldings(i think the color is black)

the only other thing that you need to consider is emsissions, it has already scared buyers away................the AA trackpipe will not pass emissions, i have FL tags and reg, no emissions in FL. so you either "freak it" past the sniffer test(if applicable) or buy some used cats to install for emsissions, and after hearing th exhaust with stock cats you will quickly reinstall the trackpipe after passing emissions:)

Its actually is a pretty color, much prettier IMO than boston green, unfortunately most people dismiss "green" without a hesitation.

I am negotiable, but i will not negotiate via email or over the telephone, its cheap enough, im not willing to "give it away"

I will just have to get a little more creative on my ebay ad, I will get my buddy to it "right" for me this time.

whats up Kevin, I hope to have the hood cable fixed, and oil change done, and the O2 sensor simulator installed this saturday, my shop has been real busy so naturally servicing needs get ignored, but my mechanic may come in saturday to finish these things.

Kevin, yeah it shouldnt be a problem taking pics, car had surface rust, but most of the parts were replaced, i.e exhauast, control arms, sway bars and links, ect..............the hood cable may have been affected by surface rust, but it will be brand new, both cables. the chasis itself on a M car has lots of cosmaline (spelling?) so rust on the chassis is an almost a non existant concern on these cars. there is one little rust spot on the underside of the trunk behind the license plate, 100% undetectable unless you open the trunk and look for it...........infact it took me a week after buying the car to find it...........no regrets, the car is solid and under the money.

There only a three of things preventing me from jumping on this deal right now ... the lack of cats (e-test is mandatory in Ontario), the fact that the seats have been dyed, and paint work on the car. I am really looking for something that has had 0 paint work on the panels (bumpers I can live with).

i feel ya, but the car is still a clean car, and i think i were in the market for a M3 and knew everything about this car, i would still buy it, its alot of car(with extras) for the money, and it drives wonderfully. The little bit of paint work is top notch, with all original panels. The dye work is pretty good for the age and miles on the car, it isnt perfect, but not many 99 model inteeriors are. I know for a fact that if i had the factory cats this car would have been long sold already, unfortunately i dont have 200 or $300 for a set of used cats to go along with the car, but if someone wants the car, finding a set of cats is not a problem, they are out there for sale.

i may have been wrong about the paintwork on my car.....I have my car in my shop right now replacing the hood cable and looked over the car pretty damn thoroughly.............this is a pretty damn clean car!

I am a car dealer, so naturally i have a critical eye when it come to cars.

ALL VIN STICKERS ARE IN PLACE!!! all original body panels, the front bumper and nose panel are new and was purchased from BMW, with ofoarse fresh paint! no rock chips!

i looked over the paint really good and found absoluteley zero imperfections from a possible repaint, then i grabbed a paint meter($500 toy that measures the distance from paint surface to metal) I never use these stupid things because they are primarily used when bidding on cars at the auction where you only have a few minutes to smoke a car over before it runs through the blocks, and besides, like i said, I probably have a better eye for paintwork than 99.99% of people in the car business..

the paint depth meter registered 3.5 and 4.0 mil/thousand on every panel and 3.5 and 4.0 corresponding asymetrically to driver and pass side panels. Usually paintwork will show thicker on panels that have been resprayed, i.e 5 or 6 mil/thou vs 3.5 and 4.o, and consistancy is key, a painted up car will read all over the place, 3.5, 4.5, 6.5, 9.0, ect depending on the coat of paint and any filler/bondo used.

I think i have been a little too critical to some of the poeple i have spoke to that were out of state concerning the condition of my car.

F#$K it, this car is niice, otherwise why hell would someone as picky as myself buy it in the first place??

so as far as i am concerned the car is a "clean car" half the body panels are 100% free of imperfections, most wear showing on the hood, front edges of the fenders, and mirrors showing rock chips. The pass side fender has a ding from a fender parking lot inmcident(hence new bumper and nose panel) but is fixable and hardly noticaeable upon first glance.

this car literally needs very very little!

looking over the dye work i had done on the front seats, i think its pretty good, thge leather is smooth and soft to the touch, the dye is a perfect color match becasue modena is a hard shade to mix, but i think it looks better than most leather interiors from 99 model cars, the rest of the interior is pretty flawless, headliner, carpeting, door covers, everything works.

the rust spot on the trunk is kinda uipsetting, but its not visible from the outside and would be a pretty easy fix if it really bothered someone.....theh rust runs along the sheet metal seam about the width of the license plate, if i were a body man i would grind away the rust and putty it up with some sort of rust inhibitor.

the car needs absoluitely nothing mechanically except for a new lower control arm bushing where the tweaser arm meets the hub/spindle thing, easy fix, i may fix it, but it took me 2 months to squeeze my car in service for a damn hood cable, and the owner here doesnt allow side work:( so the buyer can take care of it his or herself.

other than that, the car checks out pretty solid according to my tech who happens to be BMW certified tech from germany, he only pointed out the fact that the fuel filter is original and so is the radiator which flows fine, zero oil leaks, zero coolant leaks which isnt a suprise these cars dont leak with 68k miles on them! no, ZERO FLUID LEAKS WHAT SO EVER! I am actually pretty impressed with the build and reliability of these cars since owing two of them, and i believe my car can go another 20k miles with little to zero repairs required, its a nicely cared for car!

if you buy a e36 m3, you will want euro ellipsoids and HID's as well as a few things i already have installed on the car! car drives and perfroms better than stock without any sacrifices to ride, comfort, reliablity, anything!

most consumeable/wearable items are pretty new, tires, brakes, control arms, bushings, sway bar links, ect.

i am willing to negoitiate based on the little things that the car needs, the car will show nicely, no dissapointments unless you are looking for a garage kept cream puff, dont expect to find a smithsonian quality 99 m3 for less than $18k, i dont think ive seen them sell for that wholesale.

i dont know if i will ever buy another E36 M3, i certainly have a soft spot for them, but if i were to buy another one, i would seriously consider buying mine, why not? its clean, miles are good, price is right, alot of nice quality mods that are "must haves" for me after owning 2 of them with the same mods.......

If you were looking for a project then my car would be perfect, but I honestly dont think it is what you are looking for.

As far as how they drive.... I havnt driven and e39 yet so I can't really comment there. But I can compare them with the e36 m3. I was origonaly looking for an m3 before my car came along. It kinda just happened. Pretty much the only thing that makes me want an e36 over my car right now is that my car is a project, and it would be nice to have something a little bit newer and cleaner. Also I sometimes want something a little smaller for auto x's and track days and what not. Now for the good about my car. It is louder, feels faster, more raw and more rare then the e36 m3. The e36 m3 does have a .XX second faster 0-60 but its so close that it really depends on the driver. Around the corners the m3 would take my car if the drivers were equaly matched however I have lost wrx's in the twisties and kept up with miata's. So for an old barge it can hold its own. The two biggest things I love about my car are that it feels alot more raw then the m3, and it is alot more rare. Its not something I see every day like the e36 m3 and after drivign the m3 after I got my car, the m3 just doesnt have the same special feel that the m5 does. You can tell what BMW was thinking when they made each car. The e36 m3 started the errar of M for marketing, the e34 m5 Ended the erra of M for motorsport. The e36 is still a great car and I love the styling and will likely own one at some point in my life, but in order to make it what I want, I will do alot to make it more raw like the m5.

Another downside about the m5 though is $$$. M5 = Money x 5 while M3 only = Money x 3. So it really depends on what you want. By the sound of it, I think you will love the M5. I would probably get a chip if I were you though and a euro cam gear as the bottom end is not great and i have heard the cam gear helps this dramaticaly. And the chip adds around 30 hp I kid you not.

Hope this helps. Good luck with the sale.

If you're a car dealer you should know that parting out sells. I feel for you man, this car is clean. But why f*ck around? sell the stuff and then sell the car. Don't be lazy. It's only more$ in your pocket.:rolleyes

i thought about parting it out, but my 95 got all the stock parts when i swapped, i dont have stock rims, exhaust, ect...... I may trade my wheels to my buddy for his LTW's plus cash.

plus, there was a slim chance, had business been good for me(which it has sucked!) that i would keep the car, i didnt want to loose any of the things I paid good money for and have grown accustomed to having.

Its not something I see every day like the e36 m3 and after drivign the m3 after I got my car, the m3 just doesnt have the same special feel that the m5 does. sounds like excactly what im looking for :) i like peaky motors, try driving a 95 m3 with a full exhaust and intake with a bad vanos unit, thats peaky, zero torque below 3k after 4k cya later! my 99 is right in between, but i actually liked the accel of my 95 better even with the bad vanos.

okay............car must sell this week!!, reduced price $17k FIRM! with everything as described, OR...... $16,500 with factory 17" LTW wheels with good rubber................or $16,300 and i take out my alpine cd player(no stock replacement, GET YOUR OWN!)

$16,500 is about as close to wholesale money as you are going to see, 99 M3 with under 75k miles, and the car just happens to come with alot of nice extras.

HOLLY CRAP!!!!!!! Do you take payments? lol. Deffinitely get an M5. If you find a clean one, you will not regret it. Like I said, the one thing that makes me want an e36 m3 is that my car is far from perfect, and sometimes I want something in a little bit better condition, even if I dont like the feel of it as much. I am seriously hurtin right now because I want your car so bad. The exterior color is not what i want, the interior is deffinitely what i want, but at that price it could be any color combo and I would want it just as much. I dont like how common the e36 m3 is, but with that in mind yours would be perfect as it is a rare color combo....

I WANT IT I WANT IT I WANT IT I WANT IT!!!!!

YEAH good to see a great deal go down on the board :buttrock

I'm torn, need to sell the 318ti or the M3. Grrrr I've been bouncing back and fourth. Every time it snows, its the ti, then it clears up and I fall back in love with the M3.

Anyway BUMP for the sale

Congratulations on the sale Christian. I was a bit turned off in the end, but good to see someone bought her after that effort!
