I changed the price and some info in the title and it doesnt update that. I want the price displayed on the title. Think its more appealing than a red m3 in the kc area. sorry if its confusing or annoying.

SOMEONE HAS TO WANT THIS BEAUTY. I DON'T WANT TO eBAY HER! THERE HAS TO BE SOMEONE HERE THAT WILL APPRECIATE THIS ONE!

The car has been well maintained. even the paint looks new. and the engine runs so quiet I sometimes cannot tell if its running. Thats why my price is where it is. This is a solid car!

I'm guessing it's still for sale.

As discussed in prior e-mails, if you're willing to come over to the autocross at arrowhead this sunday I'd really like to check it out as I'll be driving in from Gretna, NE for the autocross event.

Hopefully you find the time and can bring it by for me to see. PM me if you'd like a number to reach me at during the event.

I am from Alabama, car is located in Lawrence, KS, 35 miles outside of Kansas City.

About the autocross, email me your number...lets get in touch Sunday if I still have it. I have a sale pending right now.

I was just in Ames too last weekend...car has only be up for a little over a month. The miles are high, but its one hell of a ride.

Hahaha...yeah i sold it to your buddy. I went ahead and put sold on it because he called once he left and said "I am not coming back without it." Plus I have been dealing with him for the past week, and between us and the bank it was all setup. I figured at let the forums know.. sorry for any misunderstanding. I cannot believe its gone! Well if running forever is about a day and a half then he got his moneys worth. He was out driving the car, having fun, whatever and it died. It would not start back so he got it towed to my house. We check all the fuses, relays, everything but it didnt sound to good when he tried to start it. Pulled a plug and it was all beat to shit.. Compression tested it and it has 0 compression on 5 of the 6 cylinders and about 50psi on the 6th. Looks like pretty much all the valves are bent. I dont know really how this happened. He didnt over rev or miss and shift. Sure he took it to 7k a few times but that shouldnt be a problem. He is obviously upset about it and to bend valves like that is like it was almost a prexisting condition. Who knows.. You should contact by buddy though so you guys can talk about it...

Lee Sung
10-13-2005, 01:18 PM
wow 7k rpm...
maybe that was the reason of bent valves?

DeanP

I am really sorry to hear about this. Tough luck for your buddy.

Cobainm3
10-13-2005, 07:52 PM
I cannot believe that...the car was running solid the whole time i was trying to sell it. Promise. I am sure there a couple people on the forums that drove it that can vouch for that.

Your buddy did call me and told me that he was driving pretty hard...like 7k rpms ...and he also told me he threw it into neutral from 5th - which i didnt understand.

And that car should run forever..never had any problems with it.
Let me know what the problem is when you find out.

whats redline again?

bimmerman1982
10-13-2005, 11:00 PM
the only way you bent valves is a misshift. and if there was something wrong before, he would have noticed it.

Sform576
10-14-2005, 02:46 AM
i saw him driving no more than maybe 2 months ago. looked fine then. im sure he could not have done anything to cause that before he sold it... i was ganna be test driving it days before the sale... so i dont think he would have offered a test drive if it was running poorly. maybe it was the thousand mile trek back to nashville, if i recall geography correctly which im sure i dont.

i honestly dont believe he would sell it with bent valves, besides the fact that test drives were being done and offered only a day or so before the sale (i was ganne be there on sunday, day after the sale...)

Hellrot332ti
10-14-2005, 04:15 AM
Stock redline is 6500, this car had the dinan stage 1 software which raises the redline to 7000k. Im not pointing fingers or what not but i do know my friend did not misshift. I asked him over and over.. He said no.. I have no idea what happened. Just sucks in general. Ive beat the shit outta my s52 for the last 2 years and havent had any issues.. Oh well, were gonna take the head off tomorrow to see if the valves got into the pistons.. Hope not..

I throw the BS flag. :bs

There's know way he could have sold a car like that, the engine wouldn't have ran in the first place, nor would he be able to even take it to 7k. Your friend $ shifted, over-revved, or whatever, and he's not taking ownership for it because he doesn't want to feel like the dumbass he is for blowing the engine within the first 48 hours.

His damn fault, people need to take ownership for their actions instead of blaming everyone else.

Cobainm3
10-16-2005, 09:33 PM
Sorry to hear about that. The car was in perfect running shape when it left me. It does have a dinan stage 1 chip in it. I do not know what else to say. I was not there, but I am a little upset the car I used to love so much has already taken a beating. Good luck with the repairs.

BTW, he could've done that damage with no $ shift and no pre-existing condition.

There is an issue that happened to my car concerning the Vanos actuator.

A BMW master tech, who btw is one of only two in the country to rebuild a Modena top end, was sure my car had been money shifted, until he took it apart!

Just some food for thought!

sounds like he harrassed it as soon as he drove away. hitting the rev limiter in every gear isn't a good idea.

mose121
10-17-2005, 05:27 PM
sounds like he just doesn't want to admit he made a mistake. Maybe he doesn't even know he did. does the car have a short shift kit? If it does, you can easily $ shift without knowing it until it's too late. And if you're not familiar with how you need to position your hand on the shifter to avoid the $ shift, you can easily have a problem. I'd bet that he was downshifting right as it died to take off and that was that. But let us know what's up.

what a jacka$$, tell him not to even bother fixing it, and sell it to someone who can drive it well........WTF was he thinking?... I could only imagine how Cobain must feel about this, to have a car for so long take care of it, maintain it, make the hard decision to sell it..........then when he finally gets it sold it's to some A-hole who $ shifts it less than 48hr after he bought it......that guy needs to drive a slushbox the rest of his pathetic life!!!

Who knows, who knows... He told me he didnt money shift it and some of my other friends were there and said it just died. I think he knows how to drive a 5speed. He drives my car all the time.. The car does not have a short shifter.. I guess were gonna get the head off tomorrow and see what the hell happened. I think from the high mileage the timing chain was strecthed and then when my friend gave it hell it skipped a few teeth and bent the valves.. Wasnt due to a money shift. Oh well, well get it fixed soon, just sucks cause he thought it would last through a beating i guess...

Isn't there a hydraulic tensioner on the timing chain that constantly adjusts to keep tension on the chain tight enough?

bimmerman1982
10-20-2005, 10:03 AM
Oh, well. It had high mileage, was going to need a rebuild sooner or later, just happened to be sooner. If it wasn't a moneyshift, and it was the timing chain then It is nobody's fault. Just deal with it, use this opportunity to do some upgrades. those early 95's had weak valve retainers, replace those and the springs with good ones, and maybe do some porting and polishing?

wich makes me think, maybe that was what happened. the valve retainers failed? but I would have to say that would just be incredible bad luck if they decided to fail the day you buy the car.

Regrettably, this is why very nice cars with over 100k in miles languish in the for sale ads. The timing belt giving way makes a lot of sense, but buying a car and one day later having to pout thousands into repairs really hurts:eek: I hope it works out for your friend

Cobainm3
10-21-2005, 01:39 PM
Nothing was wrong with the car when I had it. It ran great, and I was sad to see it go. The new owner test drove it too. Nothing was wrong...
It might not be a thousand dollar repair. Could be something small...but I definitely agree high revving in every gear and mis-shifting from 5th down can cause some damage....to any car..with any mileage. 168k is nothing for these things..especially the condition mine was in
a sad story....
