Hi all:

I just experienced my first hit & run on my Bimmer (I won't discuss the range of emotions I felt), and I need to replace my front and rear bumper covers. I see a number of posts on M5-style bumpers (Bekkers, etc.) and I was wondering if anyone has some photos of a black E39 with upgraded bumpers. Also, I would like some recommendations whether this will devaluate the car as I will likely sell it in a couple of years for a newer one. I could, of course, always just put new stock bumpers on...

Any fitment issues with upgrade bumpers will also be appreciated.

Lots of folks are upgrading there E39s to M-tech bumpers (M5 style), so it won't hurt the value of the car. In fact, it will probably help it, because it will look like the 2003 540i that include the M-Tech bumpers. Do a search and you'll find lots of posts. There's a member of this forum M_SPECS who can get you a set (front and rear) for around $1500, including shipping.

If you decide you want to stick with your stock bumper. I've got a stock E39 bumper that I'm selling on eBay. You'll just have to repaint it black.1997-2002 E39 Rear Bumper - Stock (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1,1&item=8000770435&sspagename=STRK%3AMESE%3AIT)

As far as photos... check out this thread. You'll see lots of E39's with M-5 style bumpers: http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=410572&page=1&pp=25
