View Full Version : Best rear shock mounts?
So the time has come to replace the RSM's on my E36. I am trying to decide between the BMW Street Ground Cotrol and the JT Designs RSM's.
Which one would you guys say is the better one, bearing in mind that price and NVH is not a factor.
The one shock tower cracked a couple of months ago and I had it fixed but now the other shock tower has cracked. This problem has only manifested once I put on my coilovers and slammed the car. Is this problem because of the stock RSM's I am running and will the aftermarket jobbies help to prevent it in the future?

You should have changed the RSMs when you put your coilovers on.

i am running rogue engineering RSMs.
you should use the z3 reinforcements for the rear shock tower.

check into these, you cannot go wrong with them:re rsm (http://www.rogueengineering.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=RSM&Category_Code=)
many of us are running them with excellent results. I think Mmotorwerks is selling them along with bimmerworld and other RE vendors.

I just put in rogue engineering RSM's this weekend matched with bilstien heavy duty shocks and i coudn't be more happy. I'm now enjoying a somewhat stiff, yet streetable setup. Not to mention the damn rattling is gone :alright .

I put the JTDs on my boys car, and they are really nice. Lifetime warranty, with a removable insert. Quality is top notch, and you can get them for about $80 from one of bf.c's supporting vendors, Euro Styles East, or something like that.
Couple those with Z3 reinforcements and you shouldn't have any problems.
I can't comment on GCs or REs since I've never had them, but everything I've read about them is that they are great RSMs also.
Buy which ones you can get the best deal on, you probably can't go wrong with any of the 3.

I'v got Ground Control.
Seem to have identicle features as rogue, price too.
Compared with a budy with a 318 also with the latter. I can't tell the difference.
Install was easy as well.

Negative, all Cosmos here!
I don't have any bits that can fit over the top nut that actually secures the shock and compresses the rubber bushing.. so I basically threaded it down until I started to feel a little resistance, just barely compressing the upper bushing. Does that seem about right? The compression occurs on the half of the bushing towards the outside of the car.
The ride is great btw.. feels like my rear wheels are connected to the car again :stickoutt

OEM work good, you just have to replace them after every drive..
