Im thinking my 95 318is has an LSD, on the rare occasion my car does a burn outs it leaves two tire marks. I thought this was odd. none of my other bimmers had LSD's.. Does it signify a special package? or was it just an extra option?

Mine does with big ass 17's.
Their were a few 318's that came with 3:46 25% LSD (their very rare).
As for donuts with that ratio you will have to wait till it snows, or in the wet grass.

It is very hard to get my car to peel out, even around corners, when its wet... my old e21 320i would peel out more.. So im pretty sure i have an LSD :buttrock

Find some gravel or wet grass, crank the wheel all the way to the right at about 20 KPH and floor it in first gear while your turning. If it understeers and just makes noise, It's Open. If you start to spin around in circles it's LSD.

Or you could jack up one rear wheel and try and turn it by hand.

What would jacking up one wheel and turning it do?
Jacking up both will cause the other side to turn the opposite direction if open, same direction if lsd.
My mistake just did this myself 10 min ago for the hell of it.
With my lsd turning one side makes the opposit side go the opposite way do not know what open does anymore with this test.

Was never standard for any model or version of OBDII.
Was an option with the winter package.

I thought that all E36s that were pre-ASC had an LSD, and the ones with ASC didn't get them?
All I know for sure is that all Ms have them regardless.

not all E36s came with a LSD before traction control. it came with the cold weather package or as a standalone option.
zurcdrawdem, no not all ODB2's had them.

My car has lsd. When I get a new clutch, I can burn out whenever I want, untill the clutch wears. New clutch going in in two weeks! :) :redspot :)

Ion the rare occasion my car does a burn outs it leaves two tire marks.
The two tire marks you leave don't necessarily indicate an LSD. My car has an open and will leave two tracks all day doing burnouts. If your two rear tires have about the same traction then both will spin, thus leaving two tire marks.
There are tons of threads around about how to tell if you have an LSD or not. I'd advise checking those out to know for sure.

what does it mean if u turn one wheel and the other one doesnt move at all? I tried that yesterday with my car on the lift. I moved the passenger side rear wheel clockwise and the other wheel was motionless.

My 1992 318is does burnouts and chirps second and third!
My 1993 325i, however, doesnt :(

It's really not that hard. Of course the 318 doesn't run 10's from the factory like the 325, so who knows :rolleyes
