is there something wrong with running a 245/40'17 michelin pilot sport on 7.5" double spokes? i've seen it quite a few times, but i just wanted to make sure

i wouldnt.. it would buldge too much and you wont maximize the potential contact area of the tire. i ran 235s on a 7.5 at one time and when i switched to my 9s all around i could feel more front grip, ive since been using my front tires more efficiently.
this is all theory of course.

i see... any potential hazard/risk?
if you already had the 245, would you change it to a 235/225? and why
thanks

I wouldn't run the 245's on a 7.5 inch rim. Basically its too much tire for the wheel. The contact patch of the tire is actually wider than the rim itself leading to the bulgded look...resulting in a soft sidewall and "squish" on lateral moves.

I had the same question. I also have 7.5's. Everyone seems to say don't go with 245/40 on a 7.5. I'm sure it's possible to run a 245,but it's probably too wide with not enough contact patch on the road. I run 235/40 for the front 7.5's, the car handles great. Always go with wider tires and lower profile. I used to have 225s, but with the 235s there is definately more grip on the turns. I'd stick with 235, more grip than 225, and 245 may be too wide for the rim.

225s or 235s will probably net the same grip and weigh less, and respond quicker.

You really need the 17X8 wheel to run the 245/40R17 and the 17X8.5 actually works better. To squeeze a 245/40R17 on the 17X7.5 you will pull the contact patch off the ground to make it seat on the wheel. You would be a lot better off with the 235/40R17 on all four corners. The tire fits the wheel better, they are lighter and they are a little shorter.
If I can help let me know.
