Hello fellow e30 owners,

I have a 87 325is and I'm thinking of installing my rear shocks myself. It looks like an easy straight forward job.

There use to some detailed steps available on the http://www.bmwe30.net/ site. Does anyone have a copy of those steps they saved that I can get by email?

Any help would be appreciated.

loosen the top shock mounts, lift the car. remove the mounts from the car. remove the large bolt holding the shock to the trailing arm, and pull down the shock.

I would suggest replacing the shock mount too, just get one from the dealer, be it E36 or E46 mount; thye are cheap and stronger (dont forget the little paper gaskets).

Put the new assembly back on the car.

Thanks guys! I have new shock mounts and gaskets already, can I use the old nuts? I'll be doing the install on Friday.

shocks could come with the nuts that attach them to the mounts, if not get new nuts. they are 12x1.5mm nylon lock nuts that are available at your dealer if you local hardware doesnt stock them, mine doesnt :( .

The nuts holding the mounts to the body can be reused.
