After work the other day, I had to pick my friend David up from tha airport. We hopped on the 405 north towards the valley, and it was around 7:45pm. Still daylight, and traffic was moderate, but you could get openings every once and a while.
This green Porsche Boxster S was driving like a madman 3 lanes over, so my friend David wanted me to chase him...so I did. He was making tons of passes, cutting in and out of traffic etc, so I followed him very closely. Everytime he got an opening and a decent amount of lane, he would punch it. kept following him..eventally he found out not only could he "NOT" lose me, but I was pushing his back bumper most of the time... he pulled up next to me and gave me the thumbs up.
I returned the favor...and then the real chase was on...a huge opening in traffic and I jumped over to that lane, dropped it into 3rd gear and floored it..and he followed full throttle, but just could not catch me by any means...traffic gets heavy again, and we exit the same exit onto Burbank Blvd..and we go down to Kester and he makes a right turn (squealing the tires)...and he floors it...I am about 5 car lengths behind at this point..and I hop on the throttle around the turn gettting in to the other lane..and he is balls out..as I build boost I am pulling on him...I pass him rapidly at around 80mph..and he all of a sudden slams on hte brakes and gets the hell out of there making a FAST left and I keep going.
I made sure when I was next to him I shifted from 3rd to 4th so he could hear the Blitz in action.
David had fun.

Nice, what's the details on your car, how fast do you think you run the 1/4 in since your turbocharged?
Was the Boxster S a manual or auto?
My dad has a Boxster S w/ the 6 speed manual, it's fast for sure, but I wouldn't think it would be a match for an E36 w/ a turbo like yours.
Is your car an M3?

It was a manual Boxster, I heard him shifting it.
It's an M3...no it wasn't anywhere close to being as fast.

I wouldn't think so since it only has 250 crank hp:confused:

"Cute"? I'd rather have a Boxster S than any of the BMW roadsters, guess that's just my opinion though:dunno
It may not be as fast as the M Roadster, but I think it looks better and also I just love Porsches!:D
(I still like Bimmers though too of course!!)

My g/f thinks the Boxster is ugly, and the Z3 is cute. I love how the Boxster S looks though. Still have yet to test drive either of them, so I'd have to reserve judgment about which one I'd choose til I have a more educated opinion.

Try and keep in mind that the Boxster S is made for fun - not blinding speed. :)
Also... the Boxster S is to Porsche what the 325ci is to BMW... I dont see many "I killed a 996 GT2!!" threads. :devillook

Wouldn't the Boxster be a 325Ci and a Boxster S be a 330Ci? :D J/k. I'm sure if Dave or one of the f/i guys matched up with a 996 GT2 on the street or a dragstrip, we'd hear about it, whether or not they won. But I digress from your original point...

I posted a story a while back where me and a 2001 911 TT raced from like 65-130 mph on the highway, and again for 75-135, etc, and neither of us gained an inch on one another...

A Boxster could make the ultimate sleeper..........with a 996TT motor thrashing about under the hood/bootlid/whatever.
A 700hp Boxster just seems TOO evil.........nah!!

I've seen a few Boxsters where they transplanted the 996 engine (NA not turbo) into it, and that was enough to make them FAST. Now, just imagine if that engine also had the pair of turbos!!:evil2
hmmmm porsche.... how about this? :D :D :D

See, a 996TT is the kind of car I'd purchase and wouldn't change a hair from stock. There're plenty of other platforms to buy cheap and work on.

Agreed, Rel, some cars don't need mods (yes, I actually said that! :D ) and should be left OEM.
Z8 comes to mind, as does the 575M, etc...

turbos......go look at the exhaust housing on a turbo, looks like a snail-shell. :stickoutt
The K24 turbos typically used on heavily modified 996TT's are extra pretty...I'll look for a pic

The 996TT is an amazing car... Ive seen aftermarket companies advertize stage IV kits for round about $5,000 that offer over 700HP. Given my experience with the cars, I think the number is beliveable. Blowers are a modder's dream. =) Minimum buck, maximum bang.

Are you serious? Only $5000? Or are you missing a zero maybe?
That's literally pocket change if you have the money to buy a 996TT. It'd almost be a given to buy a 700hp kit if it was $5k.

Yeah that sounds kinda low when you consider Ruf and Renntech, and all those tuners out there and what the charge, etc... :dunno
I gotta say the boxster looks like a frog. the hood seems to long but the trunk seems even longer. Gimme a 996tt and Ill shut up :D

Im not refering to TechArt, Gembella, or RUF. Those are the "Heres my $100,000 car and my credit car, Ill call in 3 months." companies. :D
I subscribe to Panorama (PCA mag) and Excellence (Euro Porsche mag) and the advertisements are covering both mags. I have a Panorama with me now (need bathroom reading material) at work, but the new Excellence is at home. Im looking at an ad here from TTP (Turbo Technik Pietz) claiming power gain kits from 330HP to 750HP.
What needs to be understood about Porsche is they NEVER get everything they can out of an engine setup. The charged cars (931, 951, 930, 993TT, 996TT etc etc etc) only require software for big gains. Most of the turbochargers are pretty much bulletproof (with the exception of a few years of the early 930 and some others) and to grab more boost out of them is pretty easy. I "might" have the prices wrong about the 700HP kit (again, dont have that mag in front of me) but Im relatively positive that to get 500-600 out of a new turbo (410 stock) you would only need software and airflow. The blowers on these cars are amazing... you can do almost anything with them. (Stick bigger ones one and your in heaven.) ;-)
Autothority, Huntley, Lindsey, Weltmeister, all those companies sell some serious upgrades to the cars... but unlike modding an M3, where BMW got almost everything it could out of the car... Porsche lets it go knowing damn well who they are selling it to. ;-) Hell, on my car, the stock setup from the factory is appauling... the wastgate is ALWAYS OPEN!!! I couldnt let all that boost go to watse... so I changed the pressure required to open it and now get boost 1000 RPM sooner while maintaining the stage II overboost protection. ;-) And that little doohikky cost me $90 and 10 minutes of my time to install.
Anyway, gonna grab a bite to eat - Ill post the number and prices when I get home.

60 hp for $5k. That's worse than buying the JC cams for $3k! That's more of what I expected, though. Goes back to my original statement, I'd leave it stock. :)

I got my Stage 1 part of my s/c kit for $5K, that alone added like 90-95 rwhp to my car... God only knows what $5K would do to a Mustang GT in terms of rwhp per dollar....
WOAH 700+ hp thats a SUPERCAR. It would be nice to own.

P-cars are wonderful arent they? :D Before the Lingenfelter Corvette (sp?) a 97 993 Turbo S (I think it was modded by TechArt... but not positive) held the record for fasted street legal car. Something about 800 HP and AWD that just "works"
Id still kill for a really nice E36 ///M3 tho...
and Id kill twice for an ///M5...
