Hello,

I'm doing the 11->18key on board computer OBC conversion on my euro spec. (from Germany) BMW 325i convertible '93.
The 18 key OBC is from an M3.

I have looked to the ETM of BMW and to the success story's here on bimmerforum and bimmerdiy.com

But it doesn't work :-(

The backlight of the key's of the OBC are lid when I switch on the lights, but the display is not backlighted and doesn't show any information, also the clock doesn't work at all.
A complete system reset (battery disconnect) doensn't help too.

I don't have connected the wire, coming from connector X1071 pin 1 (have to go to the ZKE-IV), cause I don't have a ZKE-IV, I only have a aftermarket alarm.

Does anyone have idears, what I can check or do?

Thank you in advance!!

You move the two wires from the black connector to the white connector for ground correct? Try pushing 10 and 1000 at the same time until you see test nr and press 1 on the OBC. That is the pixel test.

I have made one wire connection from the white to the black connector for ground (from X1071 pin 13 to X1070 pin 17) and one wire for 12V (?) (from X1071 pin 8 to X1070 pin 18) .... that are all direct connections from the black to the white connector ...

Do I miss a connection?
Tomorrow I will try the 1000&10 button trick... Now it's bedtime here in Holland ;-)

The OBC works great now!
The problem was an broken wire to the black connector, but now everything works great!! (except the check control)

Ok Here is where I am stuck. I tapped into the Brown wire and red/yellow wire of the connected black harness from the white harness. When I did this, I use my volt meter and pointed the leads into the slice connector to see 12 volts. So I know the wires I am tapping into are correct. Any Ideas. I really do not want to have to cut a crip, but I may have to do this to make sure I am making a strong connection, or maybe get some better slice connectors. In any event, does anyone have any helpful words. I am doing this instages. I am going from an 11 button (w/dead or partital pixels) to an 18 button OBC. I want to at least get it working before I venture further into this project.
Thanks fellas

Just go at it, it took me 40 minutes to do the full conversion. The wires you have there seems right to me (but i did it half a year ago)

Thanks for the vote of confidence, but it is 90 degrees outside (in the shade) if I just stand there, I am pooring with sweat. But I jsut thought of something,
1. When I put back in my original 11 button, it works find(meaning it lites up and so forth).
2. Is disconnecting the battery an important step?

OK, the 18 button is in and it seems to work, but the clock is not working? iS there a procedure that I should do to get it working...

WILL THESE INSTRUCTIONS WORK?? I put them together myself based off of several much more confusing sets of directions and a well-laid-out diagram.

I would also greatly appreciate it if you could look at the diagram I used and make sure it looks accurate and can be trusted. I can't post images or URL's, so here is the quick and easy way to get there from Google:

1) go to Google's home page. Search for the following: "pelican obc retrofit".
2) "Pelican Technical Article: BMW On Board Computer Retrofit / Conversion" should show up as the first link, and the diagram is at the bottom of this article.

THESE INSTRUCTIONS ARE FOR UPGRADING FROM 11-BUTTON OBC TO 18-BUTTON OBC WITH FACTORY ALARM INSTALLED AND OBC TURN SIGNAL STALK UPGRADE OMMITTED.

FIRST LET ME ASK: If the original turn signal stalk is not replaced with the OBC-controlling version, will the OBC still fully function? From what I learned from these articles, the turn-signal stalk control is really just for convenience and is not actually a necessity... is this true?

HERE ARE MY STEPS:
1. Remove old OBC, instrument cluster, glove box and dashboard- and disconnect the battery!<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p></o:p>
2. Remove the two connectors from the back of the instrument cluster, the black connector from the old OBC, and the ZKE IV Control Module connector (behind glove compartment).<o:p></o:p>
3. Run the (WHT/GRY) wire of Pin 9 of X1071 to the (WHT/GRY) wire of pin 10 of X17 (speedometer input). <o:p></o:p>
4. Run the (WHT/VIO) wire of Pin 5 of X1071 to the (WHT/VIO) wire of X16. <o:p></o:p>
5. Run the (WHT/YEL) wire of Pin 7 of X1071 to the (WHT/YEL) wire of X16 (steps 4 & 5 connect OBC to Datalink System).<o:p></o:p>
6. Remove the X16 connector’s cover and install a new pin, with (WHT/BLK) wire attached, into the vacant Pin 21 slot.<o:p></o:p>
7. Run the new (WHT/BLK) wire of pin 21 of X16 to the (WHT/BLK) wire of pin 6 of X1071 (gas gauge input). <o:p></o:p>
8. Install a new pin, with (BLK/GRN) wire attached, into the vacant Pin 15 slot of the ZKE IV connector.<o:p></o:p>
9. Run the new (BLK/GRN) wire of Pin 15 of the ZKEIV connector to the (BLK/GRN) wire of Pin 1 of X1071 (connects OBC to antitheft device).<o:p></o:p>
10. Run the (BRN) wire coming out of Pin 13 of X1071 to the (BRN) wire of pin 17 of X1070 (system ground).<o:p></o:p>
11. Run the (RED/YEL) wire coming out of Pin 8 of X1071 to the (RED/YEL) wire of pin 18 of X1070 (power source).
12. Reconnect everything and test functionality of OBC before replacing the dashboard, instrument cluster, and glove box.

If it seems like I am on the right track here, please let me know. If something seems to be missing or if I am just totally way off target, can you help steer me in the right direction? Thanks guys.
