Hi, thinking about buying a Mini. I know about the DSC (hvaeit on my E46), but what is ASC? And can it be turned off? I've been doing some track days and I find my lap times are better without DSC. Does the ASC effect the car as much as DSC?

You might want to double-check the dealer's "safety" brocures (or such sections of the general versions), but as I recall ASC is integral in any MINI. I don't know if the basic ASC can be switched off.

DSC, meanwhile, is an option that adds a couple more layers to the system on top of ASC. I got DSC on mine, and yes, it can be switched off. That being said, I noticed the owners' manual saying something along the lines of, while it'll leave you more or less alone when switched off, if something starts going really wrong, it'll "wake back up," so to speak, and kick in in an effort to save you (and presumably, itself!) ;)

Even so, there are plenty of folks who track their MINIs, turn off DSC, and have no problems.

You might find more detailed info in theforums at North American Motoring.

Good luck,
DW
