I've been looking at the s52 and the ls1 engines...s52 cost more than ls1 engines? I'm curious why people buy the s52 with less power..not the ls1 and tranny maybe even cost less? I'm not making sense to myself :D anyways can someone list some pros and cons on the two motors? thanks. sorry for the stupid question im an ex honda owner. :p

I do believe swapping in a Ls1 is A LOT more work than swapping a s52 into any 6cyl e36.

Yes, exactly what lava lamp said. Its also a hell of a lot easier to find mods for it. i.e F/I

well nevermind then

i guess its just fitment issues like custom mounting, exhaust and ecu

If you put a ls1 in your car you better be willing to have ALOT of custom work done. We all know that custom work is expensive as hell. Besides if you run into problems you wouldn't have a blue print to fall back on. You cannot simply drop it in and connect it ass you would with a s52

custom exhaust, custom steering, custom master cyclinder/brake booster mounting, custom motor/tranny mounts.

its a big swap.

s52 is pretty much bolt in.

I wouldnt want that engine in my bimmer anyway.

I dont care how much power it makes or how easy it is to mod.
Its no longer a BMW to me when you stick that shit in there.

I was just curious. One of my buddy use to own bimmers and he said that some ls1's will be able to drop in with no mods. Then I started looking at some prices and saw that the ls1's were cheaper than s52. anyone know of any good e36 bmw performance books out there? thanks.

I'd probably go with the S52

s52 is a straight swap with m52. same wiring harness. There is a lot of work to do in a good ls2 swap.

back from the dead comes this thread!
An LS1 should be in every car. Do some research any you will understand. Don't forget about the T56 six speed trans either.
