View Full Version : Help! Fuel spraying in my engine bay!

A local shop recently gave me a fuel pressure regulator (FPR) from an M3 Roadster to use to supply more fuel now that I am running nitrous.

This FPR made my car stall out frequently and later caused extreme issues at idle. To make matters worse, this FPR got stuck on the fuel rail. The bolt that holds the FPR on became stripped.

After getting off the bad FPR and putting the stock FPR back on I started the car and it ran fine. I went to the engine as the car was running and noticed that gas was spraying out from the edges of the FPR.

On my 1993 318i (M42 engine) there is a bolt attached to the fuel rail, and a clasp goes over the FPR which is held down by a nut that tightens down on the bolt, in turn tightening the clasp onto the FPR. Now that the bolt is stripped the nut does not hold the clasp onto the FPR.

I went to a local BMW dealership today and gave them my Vin number and the diagram they had of my FPR area was totally different from my car.

What should I do? Is there a way to re-thread the bolt and then get a smaller nut? If BMW doesnt even have the right diagram of my car...how can I buy the parts from them to fix this?

Any ideas are greatly appreciated! I cant even drive my car now because of a stupid 30 cent bolt that I believe is not detachable from the fuel rail.

Thanks

I would go back to the shop and make them fix the problem under warranty.

New fuel rail: $27. Or get the shop to fix it.
