Unfortunately, they don't carry the 225/40/17s needed for the front, otherwise I'd be all over this...

Exactly...thats my biggest concern, is mixing brands/sizes.
Has anyone tried running 245/40s up front?

It was a glitch. I ordered some and they called me five minutes later with the correction.
Order cancelled. :lol

really...if I order them for the price listed i expect to get them....
or a discount on something else :stickoutt:
So the stock 95's run 235/40s all around....does anyone have any experience with 245/40s? I imagine it may be a bit big for a 7.5" wheel, but I wonder if it can be done without sticking out or rubbing.

Computer websites used to do this all of the time... there have been probably a hundred different cases I can think of when this happened. Tons of orders, cancelled.... But every now and then, a few get what they ordered at the price. I think buy.com had this deal a while back several times?

There was a 20 or 21" monitor that I was trying to buy for $200 or so about a month ago.
The eBay price for this monitor was around 800 and the retail price elsewhere topped $1000
My roommate and I both ordered some... then we get confirmation emails saying our 15" monitors have been ordered.
DOH!
We knew it was a mistake.. but tried anyway. Orders cancelled.

No go on the $18 deal, but Jim knocked off $20 per wheel on the Koseis and $20 per tire on some Avon TechM500's, so that package should've cost me almost $1300, when I just paid $1150...I'm happy. :)

I know this is sort of off-topic, but I know that there was an airline that mistakenly listed flights from the US to Iceland for something like $19...and it turned out that they honored the price!!! I don't think it's something that happens all of the time, but it does happen...apparently...

19 bucks?? what a ripoff. For that price I could just buy a tire instead and buy myself a coke with the dollar I saved

It pays to be reasonable. You did not get the tires for $18 each, but you did get a generous discount. Normal price on that package (17 x 8.5 Kosei K1 plus Avon Tech M500 in 245/40/17) mounted and balanced would have been $1256 plus shipping. If the $1150 you quoted above is without shipping, you saved about $106, which is much less than the discount of 4 x ($180-$18) = $648 that you believed you were entitled to receive. If the $1150 is with shipping, you saved much more, because shipping 4 wheels and tires 500 miles is about $75; your distance from the nearest warehouse may be lesser or greater.
I just bought a set of Kosei K1 in 17 x 8.5 with Toyo Proxes T1R in 245/40/17, mounted and balanced, for $1320 plus $80 in shipping, from Eric Wong at www.tireswap.com The T1R are more expensive than the M500, but I would say you still did very, very well on your tire and wheel package.

I would not applaud anyone who writes like that. Nor would I say Tirerack should pay for its mistake -- an obvious error that no one relied upon to their detriment. Nor would I jumped to any conclusions about mommy and daddy paying for tires or about who here works hard. Neither of you two are very impressive from an ethical or moral perspective. As you grow older and more mature, you may come to realize this. It seems you two are the ones who want things handed to you.

It's been corrected to $180. Still quite cheap for S01 Expedias. Had Bridgestone Expedia S07s on my old FD Rx7 R1. Great tires for road and track. The S07s were so great BFG copied the S07's tread pattern, and called them BFG KDs.

This is true. You can find some Korean or Chinese knock off tires -- tread pattern looks similar to that of some well accepted high performance tires, but the rubber compound is lacking. I'd stick with the proven parts for performance use. However, some brands previously known for poor quality are getting pretty good now. The Hankook PS2, for example, are used in racing. That does not mean all Hankook's tires are good, but at least one is competitive with well known performance tires.

And my major concern of the day:
What Phillip Bradley (?) thinks of my ethical and moral standing. Right!
Anyone who signs their full name on a messageboard on the internet, full of people they dont know needs to step off of their soapbox and realize no one cares *that* much. Really.
Anyway...
The best tire Ive driven on in terms of dry performance is the Azenis. The only bad thing about these tires is their inability to channel water - standing water is serious trouble. Treadlife is pretty poor in terms of rating, but Ive actually gotten about 12k on my set and they still have a good amount of life left.

How do you know my name is Philip Bradley? At least I can spell that name correctly. You cannot even copy it without mispelling it. Were I you, I probably would stick with a simple screen name. Seriously, though, I am probably a few years older than you and don't feel the need to hide from anyone. I am not afraid to stand behind what I write.
You need more major concerns. When you grow up a bit, maybe a few years, maybe a decade or more -- maybe it will take a whole lifetime, you will acquire some such concerns. You certainly won't acquire any by looking for others to make mistakes so you can profit from them.

The S07 and subsequently, BFG KD, had small treadblock-to-void ratios--ie there is more rubber contacting the road because of the tighter gaps between the tread block grooves. More rubber contacting the road means more ultimate grip--assuming your tread compound is of adequate "softness".
I agree that tread pattern "STYLE" has nothing to do with ultimate grip.
Tread pattern has very little to do with a tire's ultimate dry grip.

I would applaud anyone who responds negatively to someone calling people "cheap bastards," especially when such title is bestowed upon those who have been ill informed as to the price of purchased goods. Furthermore, tirerack should have done something for the customers it wrongly informed. While you seem to disagree, the vast majority in this thread and tirerack itself, additionally, side with me on this. You are giving suggestive, and rather presumptuous advice about my jumping to conclusions. I did not make any implications regarding those who do and do not work arduously, nor did I even remotely insinuate that anyone's tires are purchased by their mother, father, or any other third party. Furthermore, in castigating me for making judgemental distinctions upon others, which I most certainly did not, you continue on to make those same distinctions of both myself and another member of the forum. No one here was asking to have anything handed to them, but rather be compensated for a purchasing decision made on a basis of misinformation by the vendor.
Allow me to highlight the irony of your very own statements.
"Nor would I [have?] jumped to any conclusions about mommy and daddy paying for tires or about who here works hard. It seems you two are the ones who want things handed to you."
The first sentence suggests one ought not to jump to conclusions, whilst the second jumps to a conclusion . . . You should investigate the the moral and ethical characteristic of your own assertions before you attempt to unweave (on an internet forum!) the moral fabric of others.
At least I can spell that name correctly. You cannot even copy it without mispelling it. Were I you, I probably would stick with a simple screen name.
Philip Bradley
This coming from the person who wrote "Nor would I jumped." Spelling mistakes, usually come from typing errors, which are a function of mechanical operations, not spelling/memory. It generally takes a state of desperation to rebut along the lines of "you can't spell well." You however, failed to make a basic verb conjugation which could not have been the fault of a single keystroke. Additionally, you make poor distinction between adjectives and adverbs when you use the phrase "works hard." Hard is an adjective, and cannot reasonably be used to modify verbs, such as to work.
"You certainly won't acquire any by looking for others to make mistakes so you can profit from them."
-Mr. Bradley
Yet you prey on foul language so you can assert yourself as an older, more mature moral prodigy?
Note: Alliteration intentional.
Phillip, you're banging your head against the wall, friend. I admire your efforts but I suspect they are wasted.
Mr M, newgsrdriver, think about this: have you ever made a mistake at work? If you did, would you like it if an army of forum readers jumped up and down on it?
Or put another way, what do you think would happen to the person responsible for the pricing error if a thousand people bought tires at the wrong price? If he or she got fired, would you enjoy having that on your conscience? Or would you just tool around town in your $18 tires saying, "Tire Rack's a big company and I work hard for my money"? If so, well, for your sake I hope it never happens to you......

To be honest, I think it would be absolutely ridiculous to actually expect tirerack to give the tires away for $18, although there are some companies that would do it. If I had come across the tires before this thread, I'd have called tirerack to ask if the tires were really that cheap, and probably let them off without any trouble if they weren't. Everyone makes mistakes. Listing tires for $18 is a small error, and I wouldn't expect some huge discount. However, an error is an error for which the company and employee who committed it are ultimately responsible. I think having that person fired would be extreme, as were some of the demands of the people on this forum, but I do find it fair that tirerack should do something small to compensate their customers for the misinformation and inconvenience. From what I see, tirerack's response has been very professional and it appears as if they have delt with it very well. Congratulations to them.

If you're going to address people's arguments, such as Mr. Anonymous, make sure address all of them, not just those which work towards your advantage. And I should hope, after posts 40 and 41, I am not the one to which you are reffering, because, as Ali said . . .
