View Full Version : Urethane Engine Mounts?

I have a set of Ireland Engineering urethane engine mounts which I haven't installed yet. I want to install them, but I'm sorta worried about a lot of added noise/viberation/harshness while driving around. I already have UUC tranny enforcers (red mounts with cups). This car is primarily my daily driver (in the warmer months) but sees about 10 auto-x's per year and a couple track events.
Has anyone else tried these out yet here? Any opinions?
Thanks

You really do not need AM engine mounts unless you're tracking the hell out of your car.

Well, I finally got around to installing them.... The engine doesn't move, neither does the shifter. There is no noticable increase in viberation from what I've noticed so far. I'm very happy with the results and ease of installation.
So now the engine and tranny ride on urethane, next up, urethane subframe and diff mounts to complete the entire drivetrain and suspension.

Your car is going to ride like a brick.... I hope you are tracking it.

Actually, no, it doesn't ride like a brick at all, if I were to let you drive my car, and didn't tell you I had the engine and tranny on urethane mounts you'd probably never assume so.
I noticed no increase in noise or viberation at all, with the exception of some extremely slight viberation at idle through the steering wheel.
BMW engines are pretty smooth, it's not like I have a lumpy american V8 under the hood.
It's great piece of mind again misshifts and worn hoses (coolant and power steering).

based on what did you make that statement?
nothing probabyl, since i have seen and had urethane engine mounts in a variety of cars and it doesn't change the 'ride' at all.
usually you get slightly more vibration from the engine at idle and that is about all one would notice.
there isn't much benefit either

oops, yeah, thanks for the correction. (I knew that too)
And if I think the benefit is noticable, even in my wallet, I paid $100CDN (about $80US), I don't think you can even buy one OEM mount at that price.
I have seen e36's at auto-x's where the engine moved enough for the engine fan to contact either the fan shroud or the rad hoses.

I once misshifted (went from 2 to reverse) and tore the engine mount out of the subframe!

So with the urethane engine mounts theres no added vibration in the car? How could that be!

Not really noticable, no. I notice the rear view mirror shakes slightly under hard accleration (1st and 2nd gear), and like I said, I can feel the engine in the steering wheel a little more then before.

seems like a good investment to me!

If you don't mind telling us, where did you get these mounts from? I was looking for an entire urethane kit for my 95 318i/M3 sedan
