you too can have a cheap but very good complete exhaust system!

here is everything i got and the prices:

obdII m3/328 tubular shorty headers: $100 shipped (from the for sale section)

getting the smog pump holes on the headers welded up and the surface decked/trued: $50 (local shop)

home porting with a dremel: FREE :)

header and collector gaskets: $30 shipped (pelicanparts.com)

plugged up the o2 sensor bungs on the headers: $4 (lowes)

converted to a complete single 2 1/2" exhaust right where the 2 down pipes "y" together, no cats, one resonator with larger 3" intake/exit (so it doesn't restrict flow), and one flowmaster delta force 40 series muffler, and a single inlet dual exit downward cut chrome tip: $200 (local muffler shop)

there you have it i have a COMPLETE exhaust system for a grand total of $384.

oooh i almost forgot i painted the whole thing with duplicolor 1200deg. aluminum color paint: $10

so i did all this for under $400!!!!

i just put the headers on today and from start to finish it took 4 hours! it wasn't to bad more time consuming than anything. i did it all on a frame lift and all underneath, i didn't need to get to any header bolts from the engine compartment. i noticed a better top end and it pulls the whole way up a little better! :alright

the sound of the whole thing is......well in two words "BAD ASS!" i have to get some video/sound action soon! :redspot

this is gonna help out a ton when i get my m3 cams installed next week!!

there is no need to spend $1000 just for a cat back system when you can get everything done for under $500!!

hope this helps anyone deciding on getting a system in the near future!!

lawrence1: edge's exhaust system is from the cats back only!! i'm talking about the whole thing-headers, track pipe, and exhaust muffler

Sounds like a nice DIY job there! Do post pics and perhaps a sound clip from interior and exterior. Think many of us would be interested.

Good stuff.. Nothing wrong with saving money. And the satisfaction of doing it yourself. PRiceless!

Probably sounds pretty close to my car without the raspiness.

If you do it all yourself a whole exhaust w/o headers can cost you less than 100 dollars.

kevin325: well i guess you have the joy of owning/working at a muffler shop for that kinda price! still though everything for under $400 you can't beat that for anything!!

i will get some pics and video soon!!

yeah, I've basically got your car in my head as the hallmark of the no resonator raspiness, I wanted something to compare it with :) :stickoutt

you can either attach images to your post or host them somewhere like imageshack.

for vids, check up in the kills forum, there is a member there who can host vids.

Nah I'm just cheap :buttrock

For anyone looking into this, chances are you probably want a cheap option. If you've got some access to a welder you can pick up a muffler for 60 bucks, a 4 foot section of pipe for $15 and a 180* mandrel bend for another $15 from jegs.com.

Oh and there's quite a bit less raspiness since the muffler is broken in now.

Kevin you should video tape a clip from behind your car with your exhaust, and then another 325i next to it revving at different so us inquiring minds can see what that sounds like. Ive already got a catback that I got for cheap but I would like the car louder, at first I was looking at the AA track pipe but it just seems like too much money for something i could do cheaper.
