Well, I had a screw in the back left rear wheel in my new Kumho Ecsta ASX tire, so I went to Autozone-out to get the wiggly worm plugs to fix it. I was looking for the screw to remove it and ream the hole out for the plug. First look, not there.....pushed the clutch in a little to roll it forward, and looked again...nope, not there either. So on my third time of rolling it a little, I pushed the clutch, released it to stop the car......and you guessed it, the car started in first gear and ran right through my side yard privacy fence! Ouch! It sent the fence crashing into my neighbor's yard and half of my front end before I could get it stopped! I wasn't actually in the car when it started and had to do a mad dash to even get to it. It was all for not though as it died from the force of the fence before any action on the part of my stupid ass could have done to save it. Sux! Worse, it sent half of a two by four splinter through the sidewall of ANOTHER of my new Kumho's...

It didn't damage the car fortunately just a little bruise on the rub strip....

My key was in the "on" position because I had just been installing my new Silver Star bulbs and needed the key on to get the headlights to burn....

Everyone else had a good day, like me? :mad

Oh, yeah, guess what? The screw I was looking for is no longer even there! It must have been the only the head and been thrown out days ago.....Oh, geeze! :confused

Tough day. Sorry for your problems.

I guess it's too late to mention that it's a lot easier to repair the tire if you take the wheel off the car.

I pulled my car into my garage one night after working really really late. left it in neutral and forgot the e-brake, I was about 4 feet from the car, looked back and it was already moving and a pretty good speed, to quick to catch, backwards down my driveway. All I could do was watch as it crossed a street (thank god no cars were coming) crashed through 2 neighbors wood/wire fences and took out a 10-12 crape-myrtle tree. I then found the car 3 minutes later about 300 yards down the golf course about 8 inches from an enormous tree. Amazingly all I had damage wise were a few downed trees and bushes, some scrapes on my grey bumpers which were getting color matched anyway, and 2 pinky nail sized dings on my trunk lid. Glad to know I'm not the only person who has had their car through a fence while not driving. :)

Go to your local parts store and ask for a hela-coil kit. They should know what you are asking for and be able to help you find the right size.

two top posters have no business working on their cars.

thats why you start on pos's and learn from your mistakes. weve all been there, just a bad choice of car to get there on... unless ur stepping up to bentlys next.

hey, ive been messing with cars a long time and i would have never thought just rolling the car that little bit would start it....
ive push started cars before and it ussually takes a few mph to get her going...
im also surpized it stay running! that seems impossible.

The car will stay running if it's in gear and moving. It will only stall if the car can't move, i.e. the brake is on. That's why it only stalled when it hit the fence.

It's also really bad on the tranny/clutch to use it to stop the car, especially from a roll. Use the ebrake or regular brake next time. :)

Possible puke green. lol :cool

I think that is Boston Green.

You guys are luck to only have minor damage. While working on my intake manifold, I put a clearcoat scratch on my fender about 4 inches long. I still havn't figured out how to live with myself. :( :eyecrazy

Working on cars for years now. Every now and then I'll forget to do something and catch myself....

Anyhow. My co-worker once parked his pick-up at the top of his driveway one night. ONly to find it across the street on his neighbours lawn!!! His e-brake didn't work or he didn't apply it hard enough!

S$%& happens! Could have been worse...

I must admit something like this once happened to me too... i was cleaning my TB and i forgot that the car was in gear, so i fire her up (leaning over the seat to reach the ignition) to burn off all the TB cleaner.. the car lunges forward and i stop it after about 5-10 feet.. i had to litterally jump feet first into the drivers seat and land on the brake to stop the car from going through a plastic saran rap style shed.. i honestly think it would have gone through the shed had i not stopped it.. and inside the shed is my dads boat ($100k boat). I cant even imagine how shitty it would have been if that had happened.

My car won't stall unless I hit the brake. It will keep going at about 2 mph in 1st, about 6 mph in 2nd, about 11 mph in 3rd, about 15 mph in 4th, and about 20 mph in 5th.

Well it wasn't my fault, but on saturday my engine fan exploded and punctured my radiator in like 5 different spots. Spilt all the coolant out in like 5 minutes.

The point of the post was for the humor of it, not the criticism... :rolleyes

Gee, you've never done anything really stupid like this have you? You probably wouldn't admit it, anyhow.

I too, have never owned a car that would start by rolling it less than 6 inches at almost a level slight roll. Granted, my fault about leaving the key on....

Maybe I will post the pics of my Dad's 1960 Thunderbird that I restored from the chassis up, including the engine, driveline, brakes, tranny, interior, suspension, etc. THEN, tell me I have no business working on my own cars...

Seems like there is always ONE, huh?
