Even with the key out of the ignition the electric fan won't turn off ... to the point where if the car is left to sit for any period of time the battery will be drained to the point of not even being able to turn lights on etc.
Needless to say the car won't start and the car happens to be 1K miles over warranty. It's my moms car and she says the warranty is 3yrs/30k miles ... why does that seem low? My E46 warranty went 4 years 50k miles if I'm correct ... Oh well ... What can I do to fix this issue?
Thanks
Jeff

Sounds like a temp sensor is on the blitz which is making the electric fan stay on to cool off the car even though it doesnt need to be after a while. Or it may be the aux fan resistor went to hell.
If it were me I would get a Bentley Manual for the vehicle or try www.northamericanmotoring.com in the forums section and search for an answer. But to me it sounds like a temp sensor is giving the incorrect temp and causing the fan to stay on after the point where it would consider the engine "cool", as a result its staying on and draining the battery.

You are correct. The MINI warranty is indeed 4 years, 50,000 miles. You can see it at www.miniusa.com
What your mom may be thinking of the the 3 year/36,000 mile regularly scheduled mantenance service (oil changes, etc.). But this problem has nothing to do with that.
So if you're within the 4 year/50k range, I'd say jump start it, take it back to the dealer, and get it fixed.
Good luck,

Yes, you are within your warranty period! And, as long as you are within the warranty period, you can also use MINI's Roadside Assistance to get your MINI towed to the nearest dealer for free! Call 866-646-4772 for Roadside Assistance.
